Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: May operational report DATE: May 30, 2002 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Two electrical sockets were replaced in lighting fixtures in the adult reading room 5/2. B. The shrubs and perennials were pruned 5/3. C. Honeywell changed the filters on the HVAC 5/3. D. The windows were cleaned 5/13. E. The elevator received minor repairs twice. F. The north entryway door was shattered by a rock thrown from the lawn mower 5/17. II. COLLECTION A. The county-wide Large Print Rotation was sent out 5/29. B. The adult reference collection is in the process of being weeded and updated. New editions have been ordered when necessary. C. Video and compact disc orders were placed. D. The periodical subscription list is up for renewal and review. Kelly is obtaining a quote from Ebsco after being informed that Divine’s 10% discount is being discontinued. III. EQUIPMENT A. One staff PC has to be replaced as soon as possible because the hard drive is failing. This replacement is a budgeted item. IV. PROGRAMS A. The classes from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library the week of 5/6 for the last time in school year 2001-2002. B. The Friends met 5/6 with 12 members present. C. The Board med 5/7 with 5 members present. D. The annual Book sale was held 5/16, with Preview Night on 5/15. The Friends made a record amount of money. E. Delivery changed from Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday to Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5/20. F. Staff participated in the City-wide open house 5/22. Using the theme “Read and Bloom @ Your Library,” the booth featured booklists and prizes for answering a library-related trivia question. G. The final bulk loan was picked up from the schools 5/23. H. Marsha and Kelly visited the schools to promote Summer Reading Clubs the week of May 28. I. Marsha was guest speaker at the Valley View Faculty meeting 5/28 to promote Summer Reading Clubs. V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A. The Anoka County Library has started to replace the circulation dumb terminals with pc’s that emulate DRA’s Circle program. Columbia Heights will be following this precedent in preparation for a new client-server based ACS and will be installing pc’s at the circulation desks in the fall. VI. STAFF A. Interviews were held for the CHASE-funded summer program aide. Alexandra Kondrick has been hired from a field of seven qualified candidates. She will work for ten weeks over the summer months. B. Mary conducted a walk-through inspection with Fidelity Cleaners 5/2. C. Three pages (Regina Jesse, Dan Kleinfehn, and Ben Pressler) had performance evaluations in May. D. Becky attended the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast 5/15. E. Becky and Marsha met with the pages 5/21, to negotiate summer schedule. This will be the first time in three years that staffing will be at a complete level for the summer schedule. F. Marsha attended the Community Appreciation Luncheon at Immaculate Conception School 5/23. G. Becky attended a Jamboree meeting 5/23. H. Marsha, Kelly, and Becky met with the volunteens 5/23 to set up their schedules for the summer. I. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 5/29. J. The new summer schedule for the part-time supervisors was distributed. VII. MISC A. No MELSA crossover surveys were taken on Library open days in May.
