April operational report

BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. New trash and recycling containers have been placed in the Library to facilitate the
separation of recyclable materials.
B. The carpeting was cleaned by Stanley Steemer 4/27.
C. Mary conducted a walk-through with Fidelity Cleaners 4/4.
D. Public Works performed the following tasks during the month: 1.) changed light bulbs, 2.)
mounted weather radio on wall, 3.) mounted air fresheners on wall, 5.) hung slat wall in
Children's' Department, 6.) replaced valve in drinking fountain.
E. City Wide Locksmithing replaced a part in the front door 4/9.
F. The windows were cleaned 4/12.
G. Honeywell performed service on the furnace 4/12 and 4/18.
COLLECTION
A. Rita Norberg arranged for the donation of ten Cohians from the estate of former Columbia
Heights High School teacher Brad Baldwin.
B. Mindy started shifting the adult non-fiction and replacing the shelf labels and subject guides.
EQUIPMENT
A. The floor mats were cleaned 4/2.
B. The Toshiba copier was repaired 4/18.
C. The new paperback racks arrived 4/18.
D. The fire extinguishers were serviced 4/19.
PROGRAMS
A. Mary placed a National Library Week display in the case at City Hall 4/1.
B. The Friends met at Keys Caf6 on 4/1.
C. The Library Board met 4/2 with 4 members present.
D. Becky attended an organizational meeting for the citywide open house 4/3.
E. Mary delivered the bulk loan to the high rise 4/3.
F. National Library Week was celebrated 4/15 - 4/20 with the theme, ;;Read and Bloom ~
your Library".
G. An ECFE field trip was conducted 4/16.
H. The Library participated in both tornado drills 4/18.
I. Debra Patrin, IRS volunteer, completed another year at the Library assisting with form
maintenance during tax season.
J. The Library met the four finalists for the Community Development Director job 4/24.
K. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 4/26.
L. The Library hosted a segment of the program for Bring Your Child To Work Day 4/25.

A.
The ACS was down 4/1, 4/2 and half of 4/3. A major Qwest cable failed. Manual charge
and old-fashioned reference were the order of the days. Qwest has major replacement issues
with part of their system and will be working on it over the summer.
Cristy Tombarge started work 4/8 as the Library Aide.
Becky and Marsha met with the Independent School District # 13 Media Specialists 4/9 to
discuss cooperative ventures and the school visits to promote summer reading club.
Becky attended the County Public Service meeting 4/11.
Marsha attended a Summer Reading Club meeting 4/16.
Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 4/16.
Marsha presented a special program on storytelling at the high school 4/24.
Applications for the summer program aide closed 4/24. Interviews will take place the week
of April 29.
Nick celebrated his one-year employment anniversary during the month.

CIRCULATION AND LIBGIS
Pat Sowada and Becky accepted the National Library Week proclamation from Mayor
Peterson at the City Council meeting 4/8.
Becky participated in an interview with Jeannette Sherohman 4/10. Jeannette is the daughter
of Harriet Blythe, credited as founder of the Library, and she owned the original red wagon
used to collect donations for the first library. Her information will be used in the 75th
anniversary celebration 12/02-12/03.
The building was re-appraised for insurance purposes 4/11.
MELSA surveys were conducted 4/15 and 4/25.
