Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: March operational report DATE: March 27, 2002 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. The toilet in the handicapped-accessible restroom was repaired the week of 3/4. B. Mary conducted a walk through inspection with Fidelity Cleaners 3/7. C. Water leaked into the basement through the west wall 3/12. Public works was able to divert the water by re-installing the scupper extensions. D. Quotes to clean the carpeting are being taken. This project is being coordinated with Public Works. II. COLLECTION A. Video orders were placed with Baker & Taylor Entertainment and Video by Cycling. B. All magazine boxes have been re-labeled. C. All the historic newspapers have been stored in acid-free boxes with new labels. Preservation of the damaged issues is not complete. D. The adult 800’s were weeded. E. Compact discs were ordered. III. EQUIPMENT A. The elevator required two service calls during the month. The hydraulic fluid in the tank was low. B. The Mita copier required a service call 3/8. C. The color printer was repaired. D. Midwest tested the sprinkler system 3/18. IV. PROGRAMS A. The Library Board attended the Heights Theatre Grand Illuminata celebration 3/1. B. The Friends met March 4 with 11 members in attendance. C. The Board met March 4 with three members present. D. Four sessions of preschool storytime were held. E. Two ESL fieldtrips were conducted. F. Two fieldtrips for District 13 School Readiness Classes were held. G. Winter Reading Clubs ended 3/16. H. Rita Norberg and Gloria Tarmann put up a quilting display 3/19. I. Marsha ran a booth at Valley View’s kindergarten round-up 3/19. J. Barb conducted an introductory tour for twelve Tiger Cubs 3/19. K. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 3/21. V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A. Water leaked into a conduit in Blaine 3/11 and shorted out the acs throughout the County. Staff did manual charge and used Northtown as a reference back up. The system was down until nearly 5:00 p.m. B. The telecommunications system experienced problems 3/26 and 3/27. The router had to be re-set twice. VI. STAFF A. Becky assisted Fire Chief Charlie Thompson with a section of a grant he is writing for 25 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA’s) units on 3/7. B. Becky conducted interviews for the vacant aide position the week of 3/11. C. On 3/13 Becky met with Dave Assmus, a fund-raising consultant. Dave’s firm may be approaching the City with a proposal for services. D. Mindy attended GroupWise training 3/14. E. Page training ended 3/18 and all three of the candidates passed their tests 3/19. Stephanie Bengtson, Ramon Gomez, and Jenna Stromquist will start working on the regular schedule 4/1. F. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 3/27. VII. MISC A. Becky participated in a tour of combination public and private real estate developments in Savage and Shakopee 3/5. The two facilities included three levels of market-rate senior housing over a first floor of commercial and/or governmental use. Members of the Community Development Office and the Council also attended. B. A MELSA survey was conducted 3/8.
