II. COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
A. Weeding of the EJ and J paperbacks has been completed. I placed an order for replacements of those
damaged titles and for additional copies of the high circ titles. This order should increase that collection
size in time for the summer rush.
B. The magazine storage area has been cleaned out and reorganized. Nick Olberding, library page, removed
some of the old shelving to make room for the new storage shelves for newspapers. Kelly Olson, Children’s
Clerk, relabeled the remaining storage boxes and updated the magazine collection union listing for Anoka
County Library.
C. I placed two large orders for new materials through B&T this month. One order to update the J900’s section,
the other covered new fiction titles in all areas.
III. PROJECTS
A. Storytime began this month. We have scheduled two storytimes each week and have over 30 children
registered for each session. Home day care providers and their charges have filled both storytimes to
capacity this winter. I am planning on revaluating our existing storytime program to take into consideration
a potential lap sit program (open to one parent and one child), an after school storytime, and a possible
infant storytime.
B. We have 156 children registered in our winter reading club. This is about average for this program over the
last 6 years. Since this program coincided with reading clubs offered at the local elementary schools, I am
considering discontinuing it next year. I have not noticed that this program has had any positive influence
on the circulation of materials. It is time consuming for staff and takes funds from our program budget that
might be better spent on more creative programs.
C. LIBRA 2002 is on its way to the printer. Kelly Olson and I developed two sets of trivia questions and a
booklist to accompany this year’s program. I also located and priced materials for use with the program.
Anoka County Library will be ordering the supplies. At this time it is uncertain whether or not we will be
paying the County for any of the materials associated with the LIBRA program. We will however have to
pay for our own prize offerings.
IV STAFF
A. Kelly Olson, Children’s Clerk, completed the updating of the union listings of magazines, aided in the clean
up and reorganization of the newspaper storage, attended a Municipals workshop, prepared the library
newsletter for printing, placed and received four B&T book orders, and set up budget documents for 2002.
Kelly also did two storytimes this month in my absence.
B. Pages have relabeled our EJ and J paperback racks, aided in the weeding of the paperbacks, shifted the
J Non Fiction, and relabeled those shelves.
