Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: January operational report DATE: January 30, 2002 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Mary conducted a walk-through inspection with Fidelity Cleaners 1/3. B. The security light on the west side of the parking lot was reported as burnt-out 1/8. C. The windows were washed 1/18. II. COLLECTION A. Council member Julienne Wyckoff has located previously-unknown issues of the Columbia Heights newspapers and arranged to have them donated to the Library. These newspapers are a valuable addition to the Library’s local history collection. B. The periodical holdings of past issues are being reduced from five to three years. As use of these issues has dramatically declined, the amount of storage space they take up has been re- evaluated. C. The large print rotation was sent out 1/29. D. All adult paperbacks were weeded. III. EQUIPMENT A. No changes. IV. PROGRAMS A. The Friends met 1/7 with 10 members present. B. The Board held a public hearing on the Library’s Internet policy 1/8. C. The Board met 1/8 with all members present. D. The Columbia Heights Public Library Foundation Board met 1/8 with 3 members present. E. Tax forms were made available to the public beginning 1/14. Debra Partin, IRS employee, is volunteering her time to help maintain the forms. V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A. The ACS experienced problems 1/22 and 1/24 with software programs. The send item list, which traps patron requests, did not run correctly on 1/24. DRA, the County’s automation vendor, had to be contacted for assistance. VI. STAFF A. Marsha attended three meetings at the County for Young Adult programming and the Libra reading program. B. Marsha participated in a storytelling meeting 1/8 at the County. C. On 1/9 Marsha met with a representative from BWI to discuss electronic ordering. D. Becky attended the Public Service Meeting 1/10. E. Interviews were held 1/15 for the vacant Library Clerk position. A conditional offer was made, and a final offer followed. Mindy Hicks will start 2/4 as the new Clerk. F. Marsha celebrated her seventh anniversary as the Children’s Librarian in January. G. Becky met with Board President Barb Miller 1/24 to write narrative explanations for the tax exempt application for the Library Foundation. H. Applications for the vacant page positions were accepted thru 1/25. Interviews will take place the first week of February. I. Michelle Smith submitted her resignation as the Library Aide. J. Kelly attended Municipals 1/31. VII. MISC A. The Library filed the 2001 sales tax online 1/10. B. Copy for the City newsletter was submitted 1/11. C. The City version of the annual report was completed and submitted 1/25.
