COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT A. Inventory of the Audio Cassette collection continues. We have completed the easy audio cassette section and nearly completed the Juvenile audio cassette collection. A number of items form these sections are charged assumed lost or claims returned. With the help of the department aid Michelle Smith, we are also developing a listing of the paperbook titles that need replacement. I hope to replace these titles in the first quarter of 2002. B. Changes were made to the BWI standing order for children’s paperbacks. This order supplies three categories of paperbacks to the children’s collection each year ( EJ paperbacks, J Paperbacks and YA paperbacks). This time around I received grids from the county listing the titles that they intended to purchase for 2002, and the number of copies being purchased per building. After adjusting our order, I forwarded our grids to Mary Oliver and Theresa Schroeder at the county. They will be adding our holdings to the county listing and developing a union list for all buildings. C. The children’s department aided the Director in collection development of the following adult non fiction areas: n 300 to 399 n 600 to 639 Staff sorted, filed and organized the order forms for this project. III. PROJECTS A. Winter Reading Club plans are underway. This year’s theme in the children’s department will be “Get Wrapped Up in Reading”. The theme’s visual appeal will be mummies and Egyptian hieroglyphs. Part of the program this year will be a mummy-wrapping contest. Participants must be registered as part of the reading club and will be timed on the wrapping of a partner as a mummy. Prizes will be awarded to the individuals with the best appearing mummy in the shortest time. Mummy wrapping is tentatively scheduled for March 14 at 4:00 pm. Library Clerk Kelly Olson is preparing book logs, posters, registration forms and prize drawing slips to accompany this program. B. Winter Storytime is scheduled to begin February 5. Preparations are underway to select books and storytime aids for the next round sessions. C. Summer is here again. The children’s department will begin scheduling summer performers the first week in January. Expect a confirmed listing of those performances with the next operational report. IV. STAFF A. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson has been busy this month. Several book orders were sent, received and processed. Kelly also closed down a variety of files and ledgers, completed year-end statistics of services provided and circulation of materials. B. Pages in the department have been involved in shifting various protions of the collection, weeding and mending of the easy books, relabeling shelves following the shift of materials. Two of the pages, Alicia Cermak and Jenny Niznick were instrumental in developing the Seasons Greetings bulletin board currently on display in the department. C. Children’s aide, Michelle Smith aided in the processing of book orders and receipt of the same orders. She also has helped with the Audio Cassette inventory, printing of the Sampler and other promotional materials. Michelle processed the holiday display materials for the month of December, and the bulk loan items for this month.
