I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. Orkin came out twice during the month to do rodent control. At their request, Beaver
Caulking repaired several exterior holes in the foundation and stucco.
B. The windows were cleaned.
II. COLLECTION
A. The last 2001 order for compact discs was placed.
B. Video orders were placed to Midwest Tape and Library Video Company.
C. Several items were ordered as replacements from the “declared missing” list for 2001.
D. Three book orders were placed directly with the publishers in three areas: home plans,
Minnesota regional books, and English as a second language.
III. EQUIPMENT
A. Honeywell replaced the HVAC filters 11/14.
B. Honeywell replaced the heat-exchange unit on the east side of the building 11/16. The unit
had been “red-tagged” to indicate it was unsafe to operate.
C. Becky met with Steve Sherry of Contract Source 11/19 about a Buckstaff workstation for
the Children’s Department’s public catalog. This item was budgeted to accompany the new
online catalogs.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. The Friends met 11/5 with nine members present.
B. The Board met 11/6 with four members present.
C. Project Bookshelf started 11/5 and will end 12/14.
D. Four sessions of Pre-School Story time were held during the month.
E. National Children’s Book Week was celebrated 11/12-11/18 with special contests and
prizes.
F. The Library’s Barnes & Noble Bookfair on 11/13 was a great success. Thank you letters
have been sent to all the people who volunteered their time to help raise money to pay the
fees necessary to start a foundation.
G. Two special field trips for Headstart were held 11/19.
H. The bulk loan was delivered on time 11/20 thanks to Karen Moeller and the City’s van.
Marsha has had experience driving a bookmobile, so piloting the van was not a problem.
She and Kelly accomplished the delivery in record time.
I. Mary conducted a tour for an ESL class 11/21.
V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM
A. The new public access catalogs were installed in three stages over the month: the server,
Internet browsers and printers, and pc’s. Paul Grosse (Columbia Heights IS Department)
and Al Rautio (ACL Network Specialist) have worked together to coordinate an easy
transition with a minimum of inconvenience to the Library patrons. This completes Phase II
of the automated circulation system transition to a client-server platform.
VI. STAFF
A. Kelly, Jeanine, and Becky attended the City’s insurance informational meetings 11/6.
B. Becky is participating in the ACL/CHPL Technology Plan review. The Plan is used to
qualify for RLTA grants which help pay for telecommunications expenses.
C. Page training for Mindy Hicks, Regina Jesse, and Dan Kleinfehn started 11/15.

D. Jeanine celebrated her 15 anniversary as a Library employee.
E. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 11/28.
VII. MISC
A. A MELSA survey was conducted 11/3.
B. Mayor Peterson and Council member Williams sponsored a Holiday Kick-Off Event 11/24
and donated the money from the silent auction and a portion of the ticket price to the
Library’s fledgling Foundation.
