COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT A. Audiocassette inventory has progressed through the easy audio book and tape combinations. With the help of the Children’s Department Aide, Michelle Smith, we hope to have this project complete by December 30. Michelle is keeping a listing of those AC sets with books in need of replacement. I will be reviewing the collection to determine which sets need to be discarded due to extreme use and condition. I am in the process of preparing and making changes in our BWI (paperbacks) standing order. B. At my request, ACL is adding COH to their Paperback grid lists for comparison of the collection county-wide. I have received a copy of the YA grid list from the County and a copy of the JFiction grid is on its way. With these tools available to us, I should be able to keep abreast of the constantly changing series titles that the County is adding to the catalog. Also this will be the first time that ACL selectors will be able to easily compare their collection size (including number of copies) to ours. C. I have placed several large book orders this month. Orders covered all areas of the collection. III. PROJECTS A. Barnes & Noble Bookfair. The library’s fundraiser to establish a foundation was held at Barnes & Noble 2100, Snelling Avenue, on the November 13. Forty-one volunteers including staff, businesses, city council members, and local teachers worked diligently to make this project a success. The event raised $1063.00 for the purpose of establishing a library foundation. B. The Children’s Department has several projects awaiting attention over the next 2-3 months. We will be doing a supply inventory of all the arts and crafts materials in storage and at the same time reorganizing those storage areas. This project is scheduled for completion by the end of February. We will also be taking an inventory of the storytime support materials and reorganizing that collection. Michelle Smith has had some experience in inventory control and will be instrumental in the completion of this project. IV. STAFF A. Kelly Olson, Children’s Department Clerk Typist, prepared all promotional materials for National Children’s Bookweek and the Barnes & Noble Bookfair. She sent and received four book orders this month. B. Children’s Department pages aided in the preparation of the bulletin board for National Children’s Book Week and the Holiday Bulletin Board. They also prepared craft pieces for our upcoming Holiday Storytime and Crafts sessions. The Pages have been busy with shelving and shelf reading along with processing the incoming book orders.
