COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT A. An inventory of the audiocassette collection has begun thanks to the help of the Children’s Department Aide, Michelle Smith. Michelle is checking each tape for possible damage, total circulation and general state of repair. I am following behind and checking those questionable items for possible discard. This is a slow process but I hope to have it complete by year’s end. B. Weeding of the easy collection continues. This project is nearly complete but gets interrupted constantly. I am hopeful that we will have it finished by the end of the year as well. III. PROJECTS A. Barnes & Noble Bookfair preparations are well underway. The Bookfair is scheduled for November 13 from 5 to 8 pm. Flyers have been distributed throughout the community via tabletop displays. Thanks to Northeast Bank, First Community Credit Union, Mr. Steak, Rainbow Foods, McDonalds, Heights Theater and the Coffee Shop for their willingness to distribute the information. All local clubs and organizations were contacted by mail and asked to distribute flyers to their membership and include a note in any newsletter they produce. Home school organizations, PTA’s, and Home and School (ICS) were also contacted and should have received the information in time for their October meeting dates. ICS Home and School replied by telling me that they would send flyers to all 180 families in the school. Both the city marquee and the Northeast Bank Marquee are advertising the event. The Northeaster newspaper will be featuring the fundraiser in their November 6 paper and both the Focus and the Northeaster have had announcements regarding the event. The City’s web page has an article on the first page and a voucher available to download. The evening’s events will include storytelling provided by school district teachers and Media Specialists and a representation of Mrs. Thomas Lowry provided by Vickie Wendel of the Anoka County Historical Society. Those who donate will have the option of having their books wrapped and will receive a token gift provided by the Friends of the Library. B. Winnie the Pooh’s Birthday Party was a big success, 59 people participated and comments from the group were favorable. Everyone shared cookies and lemonade watched filmstrips of the famous bear and created their very own Winnie the Pooh masks or bookmarks. Word Games and puzzles were also available for the group to enjoy. C. The Teen Read Program has been going well in the children’s department but not as well upstairs. Considering all the promotion we have been doing for the fundraiser, I think it may have been overlooked in the shuffle. IV. STAFF A. Pages downstairs have been busy with heavy loads of shelving, processing, and mending. This is the first month in a long time that the entire shelf reading for the children’s department has been completed. We still have some of our new pages that are having difficulty in shelving materials in the appropriate areas but I think we are working it out slowly. B. Library Aide Michelle Smith has become a copier professional. Michelle printed all the materials for the fundraiser, Sampler (we doubled the printing here this month), forms for the building and a number of booklists this month. She is also helping with the inventory of the audiocassettes and easy weeding. C. Children’s Department Clerk, Kelly Olson, produced the layout for the bookfair items, materials for Teen Read Week, and Winnie the Pooh. She processed and received 4 book orders, and some audiocassettes. Kelly also produced the final copy of the Sampler and helped with the bulk loan to ICS.
