I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. Becky conducted a walk-through inspection with the supervisors from Fidelity Cleaners 9/6.
B. Honeywell cleaned the boiler and prepared it for the heating season 9/7.
C. Public Works changed light bulbs on 9/6 and 9/27.
II. COLLECTION
A. Marsha met with Jack Kubitz from Children’s Press 9/11.
B. The large print rotation packets were sent out 9/26.
C. The order for 2002 editions of Fodor’s was placed with Bookmen.
D. Several book orders were placed and received.
III. EQUIPMENT
A. The cable channel went down 9/3 and had to be repaired.
B. The public-use copier required a repair 9/10. The drum was replaced on 9/11. All repairs
and parts were covered by the service contract.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. The Board met 9/4 with four members present.
B. Mary conducted tours for ESL students from NEI on 9/7 and 9/13.
C. The new Immaculate Conception School fall schedule began the week of 9/10 with all class
visits taking place during one week of the month.
D. The Friends gathered at Keys Café 9/10 for an evening meeting.
E. The first bulk loan delivery went out on 9/20.
F. Kelly, Marsha, and Michelle staffed the Library booths at the elementary open houses 9/20.
G. Bernie Szymczak put up a display in honor of Polish-American Heritage Month 9/28.
V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM
A. The Anoka County Library (ACL) completed the change-over from dumb terminals to pc’s
for the public access catalogs in all ACL branches in September. Columbia Heights Library
staff worked with ACL IS staff and City IS staff to make preparations for the same change-
over at Columbia Heights in October. This will be the first part of the conversion process in
preparation for TAOS, the ACS upgrade, in 2002-2003.
VI. STAFF
A. Mary celebrated 23 years as a Library employee in September.
B. Retiring Board Member Richard Hubbard was honored for his twelve years of service at the
City Council meeting of 9/24. Mayor Peterson presented Richard with an engraved clock.
C. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 9/25.
D. Marsha and Becky met with Bev Flaherty, ACL Director, and Mary Caven, new ACL
Assistant Director, on 9/25. Mary will be dealing with Internet issues, Child Internet
Protection Act requirements, starting an ACL Friends group, and public service policies.
E. Becky attended an organizational meeting for the proposed Columbia Heights Historical
Society 9/27.
VII. MISC
A. Saturday hours changed to 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 9/8.
B. A MELSA survey was conducted 9/21.
C. Page applications were accepted from 9/4 – 9/21.
