II. COLLECTION
A. Transactions and weeding of the J Non-fiction has been completed. Also weeding of
the YA Fiction and the Board books. We continue to work on the weeding of the Easy
collection.
B. I placed a large book order this month and prepared orders for books on tape and
book tape combinations.
III. PROJECTS
A. Kelly Olson, children’s clerk and I attended the Central Middle school open house on
August 30. This was the first time the library has been invited to the open house. We
took applications for library cards from those present, held a drawing, handed out
information on Library Services and distributed booklists appropriate for middle school.
A surprising number of parents were unaware of the Library’s Internet web site and the
information available on line. We had 89 drawing applications and estimate that we
spoke with approximately 150 people.
B. Central Middle School will be using Accelerated Reader this year. Media Specialist,
Valija Rassmussen, will be forwarding three Accelerated Reading lists to me (Author,
Title, and older titles that CMS does not have) I do not want to separate these books from
our collection (the listing totals 3000 titles) but am considering a bulletin board
promotion.
C. Patrick Jones picked up a copy of the “Books aren’t just for kids anymore” videotapes
to take with him to Ohio. He intended to use them as a part of a presentation he was
doing for 500 professionals in that state.
D. New booklists for teen readers were produced this month in preparation for the
upcoming District 13 open houses. I commend Kelly Olson and Michelle Smith for the
“extra” effort they put forth in getting these documents from conception to final printing.
IV. Staff
A. Pages have been active in closing out the summer programs. All displays were
dismantled and party materials stored etc. a special thanks to Alicia Cermak, and Annie
Harmel for helping with the American Girl Party (costumes and all). Pages also finished
the transactions on J non-fiction, shifted the easy books, relabeled Audio Cassette shelves
and non-fiction shelves.
B. Library aide, Michelle Smith aided in receiving paperbacks, board books, B&T book
orders AND THE large print book order, She continued her filing duties and copied all
booklists as well as the Sampler Newsletter.
C. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson processed a large number of book orders this month,
produced the layout and design for eight new booklists and produced the second layout in
a new format of the Sampler newsletter. Kelly also participated in the American Girl
party and the Trivia Time Warp party where she collected survey information from
participants.
