I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. The downstairs uni-sex restroom required some repairs 8/1.
B. The recycling bin was contaminated 8/2 and had to be replaced.
C. Orkin sprayed the exterior for wasps on 8/10.
II. COLLECTION
A. The “transaction project” in the adult non-fiction was completed 8/7. Staff started this
project in January with a list of over one hundred pages of items with damaged, lost, low-
circulation or other questionable statuses. After fourteen years of being online, it was time
to review the items that had accumulated.
B. Orders were placed for music compact discs, videos, large print books, small press titles,
adult fiction and non-fiction, and juvie fiction and non-fiction.
III. EQUIPMENT
A. The cable TV equipment was repaired 8/7.
B. Because of difficulties resulting from the network upgrade, Aleksandr replaced the Library’s
hub 8/7. The City network is still experiencing problems with slow-loading programs.
C. The drum on the Mita copier was replaced 8/8.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. Bill the Juggler was the last Tuesday Special 8/7.
B. The Board met 8/7 with 5 members present. Richard Hubbard, Board member for 12 years,
has submitted his resignation due to an overload of time commitments.
C. The American Girl Tea Party featured a fiesta with Josefina 8/9. Library Page Alicia
Cermak portrayed Josefina.
D. The Trivia Time Warp party was held 8/16 at the Heights Theatre to celebrate the
completion of the Libra Reading Club.
E. Mary conducted a tour of the library for ten ESL students 8/17.
F. Marsha made a presentation on children’s services to the Immaculate Conception School
teachers at their in-service training session 8/27.
G. The Library had an information booth at the Central Middle School open house 8/30.
V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM
A. The automated circulation system was unavailable all day 8/18 due to a telecommunications
cable in front of Library Support Services being cut.
VI. STAFF
A. The fall, 2001, schedule for the Library Supervisors has been completed and assigned.
B. Nancy Soldatow completed 18 months of employment as a Library Supervisor and Alicia
Cermak completed 6 months of employment as a page.
C. A page class with three members trained during the month. Beth Gilles, Jenny Niznick, and
Ben Pressler will join the regular schedule in the fall.
D. Becky updated and revised all the page quizzes and tests.
E. Marsha attended a CHASE Steering Committee meeting 8/1 to present program proposals
for 2002.
F. Becky and Councilmember Julienne Wyckoff met with Jean Smith and Vickie Wendel of the
Anoka County Historical Society on 8/14 to gather information on how to set up a local
historical society. Applications from interested citizens are being compiled.
G. Marsha and Becky met with the pages 8/22 to negotiate fall schedule.
H. The volunteers were recognized at a luncheon in their honor 8/22. teens volunteered 272.25
hours and adults volunteered 125 hours over the year.
I. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 8/28.
VII. MISC
A. A MELSA crossover survey was conducted 8/7.
