July operational report

I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. Honeywell installed a new part in the air handler 7/5 to improve circulation in the activity
room.
B. The windows were washed 7/5.
C. Heights Electric connected the two new high-water alarms to a warning light on 7/16.
D. The men’s room had to have graffiti removed twice during the month.
E. Becky requested a walk-through of the building with the Fidelity supervisor 7/24.
II. COLLECTION
A. The magazine mending project was completed 7/6.
B. Two adult paperback orders were placed.
C. The cd cleaning project was finished 7/20.
D. The low-transaction project was completed through the 811’s.
III. EQUIPMENT
A. The Mita departmental copier was repaired 7/2.
B. The color printer required a replacement part which was installed 7/24.
C. The City’s computer network was upgraded 7/28 –7/29.
D. The Friends donated a dozen new green plastic browsing baskets in July.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. The Board met 7/2 with 5 members present.
B. Funtimes were held on 7/5, 7/12, 7/19 and 7/26.
C. July Tuesday Specials included Dr. Science (7/10), Bells and Whistles (7/17), David Sleeper
(7/24), and Super-Duper Duo (7/31).
D. Patrick Jones, nationally known young adult librarian, visited the Library 7/25. He
discussed programming and collection development for young adults. He is working at the
public libraries in the Twin Cities over the summer through a grant administered by
MELSA.
E. Marsha presented a program at Highland 7/27.
F. Four homebound patrons received materials in July.
V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM
A. The automated circulation system and the Internet browsers were troubled by the Code Red
“worm” virus. No permanent damage to records was sustained.
VI. STAFF
A. Becky attended the County Public Service Meeting 7/12.
B. Becky met with the City Manager and the Finance Director 7/18 to present the proposed
2002 Library budget.
C. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 7/25.
D. Michelle Smith and Michael Brown celebrated six-month anniversaries in July. Annie
Harmel celebrated her two-year anniversary.
E. Elaine and Barb have worked extra daytime hours during Mary’s medical leave.
F. Joe Torborg resigned as a page 7/23.
VII. MISC
A. A MELSA survey was conducted 7/10.
B. Copy for the next edition of Heights Happenings was submitted 7/10.
