D. Super Tuesday performances began and have been very well received. We have noticed that we are pulling
from around the county for these programs. I think this is a direct result of the publicity in the Anoka County Parks
brochure.

F. Plans are underway for Josefina’s Fiesta (August 9) as a part of our annual American Girl series promotion.
We have 11 girls registered and will be accepting a total of 40 registrations. Craft materials are coming from Mexico and
will lend an authentic atmosphere to the program.
G. Plans are also being finalized for the Trivia Time Warp party scheduled for August 16 at the Heights Theater.
th
Invitations will be designed during the month of July and mailed out by August 8.
II. PROJECTS
A. The library’s entry in the Jamboree Parade was the major project for the month. Staff Members joined the
Library Board of Trustees all dressed in storybook character costumes. Richard Hubbard, Library Board member, drove a
city truck that pulled a flatbed trailer full of 16 costumed characters. Costumes were provided by a variety of people, but
special thanks goes to Lotus Hubbard for her efforts in creating some of those hard to locate costumes.
B. Storytime Kits are now available for circulation. Theresa Shroeder and I met with Anoka County Library’s
th
management committee on June 27 and hammered out the final circulation details. This project began in April of 2000
and has taken a little over one year to complete. It consists of 80 themes conveniently packaged for easy use by day care
providers and preschool educators. Each package contains 5 books accompanied by a piece of realia (toy, puppet, game)
related to the theme and an activity book full of fingerplays , games and craft ideas to reinforce the theme. These kits will
be available for circulation from the Rum River Library, Northtown Library, and The Mississippi Library.
III. COLLECTION
A. We have temporarily suspended the weeding of the easy collection at the letter M. It is fruitless to attempt this
project during the summer months as such a large portion of this collection is in circulation until September. We will
resume the weeding at that time.
B. The pages with help from the volunteers have begun cleaning and mending of the non-fiction sections of the
collection.
C. Magazines have been moved to storage and new shelf labels prepared for all the boxes in the storage room.
IV. STAFF
A. Children’s clerk, Kelly Olson completed the following tasks this month:
1) re-labeling of the magazine storage boxes, 2) aided in the development of a new layout for the Sampler 3)
developed posters and flyers for the Rich Wieber stunt show, 4) aided in the development of the oversized books used on
the Jamboree parade float.
B. The Pages in the Children’s Department have been valiantly cutting out craft pieces and bulletin board pieces
for the Funtime/storytime program and for the Reading Clubs. They have also been cleaning the shelves in the
department and re-labeling those shelves with worn out and tattered labels. Between the programs, the reading club
registrations, these projects and shelf reading they have been kept very busy since school got out.
C. Children’s Department Aids, Michelle Smith and Alicia Andrews have been busy with program support
materials. Alicia’s primary responsibility this summer is the Trivia Time Warp program. She is working on plans for the
end of the summer party while she registers young teens in the program. Michelle has been invaluable at the circulation
desk filling in during the summer vacation gaps. She has also been copying flyers, newsletters and forms on a weekly
basis. I am concerned about the possibility of losing one of these aid positions next summer, as Alicia is currently paid
through CHASE. The loss of this position would greatly affect the success of the teen program as Alicia provides
excellent readers advisor service to this age group.
