I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. The sump pump light came on 6/5. One of the sump pumps was repaired by Public Works.
A new float system for both (one is connected to the elevator shaft and one to the general
building) was installed and wired to a visible and audible alarm system.
B. Marsha supervised cleaning out the print room and magazine storage room on 6/6.
C. The Beautification Committee placed flowers in the Library’s planters 6/7. Sharon Briley
and Shari Alexon provided the manual labor.
D. The windows were cleaned 6/7.
E. Dalco performed routine maintenance on the roof 6/19.
II. COLLECTION
A. Two book orders were placed.
B. The first books-on-cd’s were received.
C. Music cd’s, videos, books-on-audio cassettes and paperbacks were all added to the collection
in June.
D. Work was completed on the withdrawal sheets and will continue on the low-circulation
sheets.
E. The magazines have been shifted into storage, and the pages are about half-done with
mending the current issues.
III. EQUIPMENT
A. Aleksandr compiled an inventory of software installed on the Library’s pc’s. He edited off
non-licensed software on 6/6.
B. The Library received a new weather radio 6/15. Fire Chief Charlie Thompson programmed
it to receive warnings only for Anoka and Hennepin Counties.
C. The Mita copier had problems 6/25 and required a service call.
D. The brochure case in the workroom was re-labeled and placed in alphabetical order.
E. The Friends redeemed Campbell’s Labels for an electric pencil sharpener and stapler for the
Library.
F. The Hollinger archival boxes for the old newspapers were received. These were a donation
from the Friends.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. Alicia Andrews, the CHASE summer aide, started to work 6/4. Alicia has played a major
part in the Library’s Jamboree Parade entry, American Girl tea party, and Trivia Time Warp
program.
B. The Friends met 6/4 with 14 members present.
C. The Library Board met 6/5 with all members present. A high school student observed the
meeting for a class assignment.
D. The Tuesday Specials for June included the Minnesota Zoomobile (6/12), Kit & Kaboodle
(6/19), and Norm Barnhart (6/26).
E. Three sessions of Funtime were held.
F. Marsha attended a Jamboree planning meeting 6/14 at Public Works. Marsha coordinated
the Library parade entry, “Wolfin’ Down Books @ Your Library”. This year the entry was a
“howlin” success with storybook characters in costume and their accompanying books
making a visual impact from a decorated flatbed. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard
to make this event happen.
G. A special program featuring stunt bike rider Rich Wieber was held 6/21 in the Immaculate
Conception School parking lot across the street from the Library. He was very well received
by those in attendance.
H. Three homebound clients received materials in June.
V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM
A. The replacement of the pac terminals has been postponed because of a missing quote. If
possible, the item will be placed on the July 16 City Council Work Session.
VI. STAFF
A. Kelly celebrated nine years with the Library in June.
B. A second interview for a candidate for the Library Clerk position was held 6/7. Based on a
number of factors, no conditional offer was made. The position will be re-advertised 8/19.
C. The graduating pages were honored at a breakfast hosted by the full-time staff 6/11. The
graduating pages were given a copy of a resolution passed in recognition of their years of
service by the Library Board and a notebook/folder combo by the staff.
D. Five interviews were held for the vacant page positions 6/12. Three conditional offers of
employment have been made.
E. Book drop duties switched from Rachel Wells to Toni Swanson 6/17.
F. Mary Kloss is on long-term medical leave to recover from knee replacement surgery. In her
absence, the newsletter was edited by Library Supervisor, Barb Kondrick. Barb and Elaine
Dietz-Mamaril, another Library Supervisor, have worked various day hours to help during
Mary’s absence.
G. Becky attended the City Council work session 6/18 to provide background information on the
proposed Heritage Preservation Ordinance. The ordinance did not pass the second reading.
H. Becky sat in on specialized Excel training with Finance Department staff on 6/21. Functions
of Excel that pertain to the budget preparation process were covered.
I. Marsha attended a Kits meeting 6/27.
J. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 6/28.
VII. MISC
A. Saturday hours changed to 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 6/9. These hours will be in effect till 9/8.
B. A MELSA survey was conducted 6/11.
C. Gail Olson from the Northeaster interviewed Becky 6/13 about the proposed Heritage
Preservation Commission.
D. The proposed 2002 Library budget draft was submitted to Finance 6/19.
