FROM: Mary M. Kloss
SUBJECT: Operational Report, April 2001
DATE: April 26, 2001
I. Programs:
Friends:
A. The Friends of the Library met on Monday, April 2, 2001, at 5:30 p.m. for a
dinner meeting at the Keys Restaurant in Spring Lake Park. Eighteen members attended.
The library update included information on our new employees, Heights Theater
fundraiser, and upcoming National Library Week activities. The Friends discussed their
upcoming book sale and sign up sheets were passed around. The Friends had voted to
purchase newspaper storage boxes from the “wish list” but because of the high shipping
cost involved Becky was wondering if they were still interested. They agreed the
shipping cost was too high to purchase them. They suggested she see if they could be
purchased locally. Their next meeting date is Monday, May 7 at 1:00 p.m. at the library.
At home service
B. : I processed and scheduled delivery for two “at home” patrons. I also
sent out one registration brochure to someone requesting the service.
Bulk loans
C. : Book loans were processed and delivered to Heights Manor and Parkview
Villa on Wednesday, April 4.
II. Collection development:
Vertical file:
A. I continued ordering new travel information online from each state.
Books on tape and CD
B. : I continued working on an order for books-on-tape and a
selection of books on CD. A fund transfer will be made to cover the cost of the books on
CD. I am interested to see if the books on CD will circulate and how often since we have
had patrons request them.
III. Projects and goals:
Book displays
A. : This month I continued the display of books featuring gardening, deck
building, and other outdoor spring activities. We have a large selection of these books
and items from the display have circulated a lot. Additional books were added to the
COH-NEW displays.
National Library Week
B. : National Library Week was celebrated with a proclamation
read at the City Council meeting, photos of the staff on the lobby bulletin board, and a
guessing contest and prize drawing.
Tax forms
C. : The display of tax forms was taken down on Tuesday, April 17. It was an
active tax season with many requests for forms and booklets. It seems very few people
used the Internet connection at the library to download forms. I greatly appreciated the
help from IRS volunteer Debra Patrin, she helped out on Thursday evenings and
Saturdays.
Supply ordering:
D. A paper order to Johnson paper was prepared and faxed to them.
Numerous supplies were ordered from Office Depot including two chairs for the
Children’s Department. The library’s user’s guide was also updated and printed by IPC.
Monthly budget report

completed it yet.
