Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: January operational report DATE: January 30, 2001 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. The downstairs restroom was vandalized on 1/16 causing a flood of water. Public Works responded for clean up, and Olson Plumbing repaired the fixture. II. COLLECTION A. The large print rotation among the Anoka County libraries occurred 1/31. B. An order for videos of feature films was placed. C. A “catch-up” order of book titles from 2000 was placed with Baker & Taylor. D. An order for paperbacks and 2001 Fodor’s travel guides was placed. III. EQUIPMENT A. NSP installed a new “remote-read” electric meter on 1/22. IV. PROGRAMS A. The Board met ¼ with all members present and guest Bruce Nawrocki in attendance. B. The Friends met 1/8 with 11 members present. C. All tax forms received have been put out for public distribution. D. Members of the Friends volunteered time during the month to straighten and to shelf-read during the Library’s staff shortage. E. The Board met 1/23 for a brainstorming work session in preparation for their meeting with the City Council on 2/7. F. The bulk loan was delivered 1/25. G. Debra Patrin will be volunteering with the tax form program on Thursdays and Saturdays during tax season. H. Winter Reading Programs started 1/29. V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A. The Library’s 2001-2004 Technology Plan has been submitted to the State as of 1/24. VI. STAFF th A. Marsha celebrated her 7 anniversary of being the Children’s Librarian. B. Jeanine participated in cable shoots on 1/4 and 1/30. C. Becky attended a demonstration of City View, a productivity tool, on 1/8. D. Nine interviews were held for the vacant page and aide positions. E. Becky met with Bev Flaherty, Director of Anoka County Library, on 1/10 to open negotiations on the automation contract. F. Becky met with City Manager Walt Fehst on 1/11 to discuss the format and content of the 2/7 work session with the Library Board and City Council. G. Becky and Jean Kuehn traveled to seven library sites on 1/16 and 1/17 to take pictures for the 2/7 work session. Jean was an enthusiastic, capable photographer. H. Becky attended the County Public Service meeting on 1/18 at Northtown. I. Marsha attended a Libra meeting on 1/22. J. Marsha met with Assistant Fire Chief Dana Alexon 1/24 to discuss a storytime done by the Fire Department. K. Marsha met with Dave Holmgren of the Heights Theater on 1/25 to discuss programming options. L. Two new employees started in January: Michael Brown (page) and Michelle Smith (aide). VII. MISC A. A MELSA survey was conducted 1/27. B. A lot of staff time in January was spent on preparing for the Board work session and the join work session with the Council scheduled for 2/7.
