Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: December 2000 Operational Report DATE: December 27, 2000 I. Building Maintenance a. Public Works crews performed several small repair jobs and changed light bulbs on 12/7. b. Honeywell responded to calls on 12/12 and 12/15. The roof top units were still set to Daylight Savings Time, and the basement thermostat was replaced. c. The Public Works crews did an excellent job of keeping up with snow removal over a very busy time. II. Collection a. Final orders have been placed for all materials and are being checked in as quickly as possible. Staff would like to close as many others as possible by December 30. b. Marsha has reviewed the standing orders for BWI for 2001 and has made adjustments based on discontinued and new series titles. III. Equipment a. No changes. IV. Programs a. A recycling display on holiday wrapping was put up by Anoka County for the month. b. The Friends met 12/4 with ten members in attendance. c. The Board met 12/5 with four members present. d. The Board had a special meeting 12/7 to discuss the potential use of the former Marshall’s site as a library. e. Seventy books were collected as part of Project Bookshelf. Collected toys and books were donated to SACA for distribution. V. Automated Circulation System a. No changes. VI. Staff a. Marsha met with Patty Wheeler Andrews 12/5 to discuss the Twilight Tales program and to evaluate changes for next year. b. Kelly worked with Jeanine on Quark cross-training and with Shari on Acquisitions cross-training. c. Kelly attended a storytelling workshop on 12/7 at the Dakota County Library. d. Mary attended the Golden Age holiday party on 12/7. e. Marsha participated in a LIBRA meeting 12/11. f. The 2001 Seasonal Plan for the department was drafted during the month. g. Becky met with Aleksandr and Paul from IS on 12/12 to discuss the City LAN section of the Technology Plan required of the library by the state. h. Marsha attended a story-sharing meeting with the other children’s librarians at the County on 12/14. i. Becky attended three work sessions on the Technology Plan during the month. j. Becky attended the City Council work session on 12/18 to present the Board’s letter about the former Marshall’s site to the Council. Much discussion resulted in the setting of a special meeting for 2/ 7 for the City Council and Library Board to open a dialogue about the possibility of building a new library. VII. Miscellaneous a. A MELSA survey was conducted 12/2. b. All purchase requisitions for 2000 were submitted to Finance by 12/11. c. Staff attended the City holiday party on 12/13. d. The Technology Plans for the ACL WAN and the City LAN have been prepared and will be submitted for approval by both Library Boards before being submitted to the state. VIII.
