Storytimes were well attended to the very last. I am considering offering only two sessions during the winter months as the last three winters have shown a drop in attendance. I believe the drop in attendance reflects reluctance on the part of care providers to take young children out early in the sub zero weather. TWILIGHT TALES was minimally effective this season. Attendance was sporadic and the program never developed a strong following. Patty Wheeler-Andrews and I will be attending a MELSA workshop featuring storytelling techniques. We will take some time at the workshop to discuss options regarding this program. With the help of Kelly Olson, clerk typist, I was able to complete the weeding of the J and YA paperbacks. I am in the process of preparing the 2001 standing order for BWI. We will need to place this order by mid- December in order not to loose shipments on series items in January. III. PROJECTS A. The ACL STORYTIME KITS project is progressing slowly but surely toward st completion. At this time the targeted date for circulation of these materials is May 1. All books and Realia have been ordered. Kelly and I are working on drafts of layouts for the print materials. The County Library system will provide personnel to type the information sheets. A meeting is planned for February 13 to compile and process forty of the eighty one kits, these forty kits will then be sent to cataloging for entry into the data base. The remaining forty one kits will be processed sometime in late March or early April. B. SHELF LABELS. We have shifted and relabeled the easy books, J nonfiction and EJ fiction. We are in the process of re-labeling shelves for all paperbacks. C. CHASE I will be notifying the Recreation department and Cindi Willprecht of our intention to cancel the Author/coffeehouse portion of the CHHASE grant. In lieu of this program I will be submitting an additional mini grant requesting the funds be given instead to the Teen Summer Reading Club. At this time, it would difficult (if not impossible) due to short staff and possible move to another location, for us to plan and develop this program appropriately. The author visits and coffeehouse programs fit into the library’s mission perfectly but I am reluctant to present a program that is anything less that a quality product. Hopefully, we can re-submit to CHASE for funding of this program during the next round of applications. IV. STAFF A. PAGES The children’s department is still short handed (as is the entire Library) but the pages are managing to shelve the incoming materials most of the time. Other projects are on hold however, including checking book orders, shelf reading, mending, shelf labels, setting up and taking down the activity room, printing and folding of flyers, forms, newsletters and brochures. The full time staff has been completing many of these projects, others are on hold permanently. I expect that this situation will improve over time with the addition of new staff to fill vacant positions., but at the moment it is difficult. C. CHILDREN’S DEPARTMENT CLERK TYPIST. Kelly Olson aided in the development of the Storytime Kits, processed Audio Cassettes orders for the children’s department, processed new sets of Shelf labels and relabeled some of the shelving, prepared materials for national Children’s Book Week, completed three sessions of on- line training in WORD.
