Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: October operational report DATE: October 24, 2000 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. The used fluorescent light bulbs were picked up by Public Works to be recycled with appropriate procedures. B. Fidelity Cleaning has placed a new cleaner in the building. II. COLLECTION A. The last compact disc order for 2000 has been placed. B. The review of current periodical subscriptions has been completed and renewals have been sent to the vendor. III. EQUIPMENT A. No changes. IV. PROGRAMS A. The Sister City Committee has put up a display for October, Polish-American month. An accompanying book display and booklist have been provided by the library. B. Thirteen storytimes were held during the month, with a total attendance of 270 children and 111 adults. C. The Board met 10/3 with all members present. The Board also met 10/3 with the City Council to review the Library’s proposed 2001 budget. D. The Sister City presented a set of videos, a book of poetry, and a puzzle to the Library on 10/10. Becky accepted the donation on behalf of the Board of Trustees. E. Twilight Tales programs were held 10/10 (5 children, 3 adults), 10/17 (6 children, 4 adults), and 10/24 (1 child, 1 adult). F. Marsha was guest storyteller for the grand re-opening of the school district on 10/16. th G. Marsha had four field trips of 7 graders visit the Library on 10/23 and 10/30. H. The second round of the Bulk Loan program was rotated 10/26. I. Teen Read Week was celebrated starting 10/30. V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A. No changes VI. STAFF A. Shari participated in a walk-thru with Fidelity Cleaners 10/2. B. Marsha, Kelly, Becky, Mary, Shari, and Jeanine participated in Word and Excel training. C. Rachel celebrated her first year of being a Library employee. D. Becky attended the Upper Midwest DRA User Conference on 10/12, and demonstrations of TAOS, the next client-server upgrade, were given of all functions currently developed. E. Marsha met with the Storytime Kits Committee on 10/17 and 10/31. F. Marsha attended the Summer Reading Club meeting 10/24. G. Becky met with Peggy and Chad from Anoka County Library on 10/25 to coordinate the revision of the Library’s technology plan. They also attended a training session at MELSA on 10/26 to assist them with the new forms and checklists required in the plan. th H. Jeanine celebrated her 14 anniversary as a Library employee. VII. MISC A. A MELSA survey was conducted 10/2 and 10/27. B. Becky met with Bob, owner of the Columbia Heights Mall, on 10/11 to discuss the former Marshall’s site as a potential Library site.
