Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: September operational report DATE: September 27, 2000 I.BUILDING MAINTENANCE A.Honeywell has cleaned and serviced the boiler and the roof top units in preparation for the winter heating season. II.COLLECTION A.A large book order for replacements and collection development in the J500's - J600's was placed 9/1. John has helped Marsha on this project. B.Additions are complete for the targeted areas of the adult 600's. C.The 000-299's have been completely weeded. III.EQUIPMENT A.The LAN equipment received some new pieces (e.g. media converters) on 9/6. B.One of the security lights in the parking lot and all the security lights on the south side of the building were discovered to be out on 9/6. Repairs were made by NSP and Public Works. IV.PROGRAMS A.The Volunteens were recognized for their summer work on 9/5 at a program sponsored by Mayor Gary Peterson. Barbara Miller, President of the Library Board, presented awards to each participant. B.The Board meeting 9/5 had all six members in attendance. C.Marsha attended the Immaculate Conception School staff meeting 9/6 to set up the bulk loan and classroom visitation schedules. The bulk loan program has quadrupled from last year. D.The Friends met 9/11 with 9 members present. E.The 2000-2001 bulk loan program started 9/28. F.A 4-H exhibit was put on display in the Children’s Department on 9/30. V.AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A.The system crashed three times on 9/7 due to loss of power. No data was lost. VI.STAFF A.Fall schedule started 9/5 and Saturday hours changed to 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on 9/9. B.There are currently four page positions vacant. Ads for pages and an aide have been placed in the newspapers. A posting has also been given to the Guidance Office at Totino-Grace High School. C.Sue Bembenek donated four hours of her time on 9/7 to help restore order to the shelves in the Children’s Department. D.Becky attended the Southern Anoka County Chamber of Commerce luncheon on 9/14. A presentation on GIS and development of the Central Avenue corridor was made. E.Becky attended the grand opening of the new transit hub on Central Avenue 9/19. Afterwards, she and members of the City Council toured the vacant Marshall’s space in the Columbia Heights Mall, which was a site considered for the Library. The mall owner has provided scale drawings for staff to develop into a proposal and will prepare cost estimates for operating the site. F.Mary Kloss celebrated 22 years at the Library in September. G.Becky attended a meeting on the cleaning and Honeywell contracts on 9/25. H.Becky met with Julienne Wyckoff, Walt Fehst, and Linda Magee 9/25 to review the first draft of the proposed heritage preservation ordinance. I.Becky helped grade the police candidate essays the week of 9/25. J.Becky, Mary, and Marsha participated in Word and Excel training on 9/27 and 9/28. K.Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 9/27.
