Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: August operational report DATE: August 29, 2000 I.BUILDING MAINTENANCE A.The men’s room on the main floor had graffiti painted on the interior door on 8/14. A police report was filed 8/15. B.Heights Electric installed an outlet on the main floor 8/21. C.Public Works was called for a plumbing problem 8/22. II.COLLECTION A.An order for new large print adult titles has been placed. B.The 600's and 700's were weeded. The selection of new titles to develop the completed areas has started. C.Several media orders were received during the month. III.EQUIPMENT A.The public use copier had to be repaired 8/1. B.The drinking fountain in the main lobby was repaired 8/2. C.The new steel video shelves were received 8/2 and installed 8/15. These will allow the informational videos to be kept in order for easier retrieval. D.The new hub for the City’s LAN was installed 8/17. E.The hub for the Internet browsers was installed 8/22. F.The two Internet browsers with graphics were installed 8/30. IV.PROGRAMS A.Three Tuesday specials were held in August: 1.8/1/00:The Flyers (91 children, 42 adults) 2.8/8/00:Gary Vice(81 children, 24 adults) 3.8/15/00:Woodland Puppets(92 children, 32 adults) B.The Board met 8/1 with five members present. C.Two “My Teacher Storytimes: were held in August: 1.8/2/00:Karen Crotty(12 children, 7 adults) 2.8/9/00:Valija Rasmussen(11 children, 3 adults) D.The Kirsten American Girl Tea Party 8/3 was enthusiastically attended by 39 children and 33 dolls. E.The Friends met 8/7 at Keys Café for a dinner meeting. F.The Harry Potter Party 8/17 was a rousing finale to summer with 62 participants. G.The 8 volunteers last day of work was 8/18. H.Reading Clubs ended 8/25 with the final count of 702 participants in “Library Kids Lead the Way”, 174 in “Libra”, and 76 in both. I.The public elementary schools in Independent School District #13 held open houses 8/31. The Library had booths at Valley View (Shari), Highland (Kelly), and North Park (Marsha). V.AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A.No changes in August. VI.STAFF A.Becky attended the Northstar Corridor commuter train demo on 8/10. B.Marsha, Jeanine, Becky, and Kelly attended the insurance meetings at City Hall 8/15. C.Nancy Soldatow completed her six-months probation as a Library Supervisor in August. D.Marsha and Becky met with the pages 8/23 to negotiate fall/winter schedule. E.Mary attended a safety meeting 8/29. F.Becky worked with the City attorney to prepare a draft ordinance for a Heritage Preservation Commission for consideration by the Council. VII.MISC A.A MELSA survey was conducted 8/10.
