Rebecca Loader, Library Director May operational report May31,2000 BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. The floor mats were sent out to be cleaned. B. The carpeting on both floors was cleaned. C. The mini-blinds were sent out to be cleaned. D. Mel Collova, Henry Henry, and Craig from Honeywell inspected the Library rooftop air conditioning units 5/9. Several mechanical maintenance items were completed by Henry on 5/23. E. Public Works repaired a broken blind on 5/11. F. Becky performed a "walk-through" inspection with the building cleaners 5/16. G. Anderson's replaced the broken threshold in the work room 5/22. They will return 6/6 to replace the worn-out tiles in the main floor lobby. COLLECTION A. The quarterly large print rotation of books within the County occurred 5/31. B. A book order was placed 5/24. C. John Godava donated a copy of the Columbia Heights Pioneer newspaper to the Library for the local history file. D. The cd's were weeded and replacements were ordered. EQUIPMENT A. Becky met with Steve Sherry, new representative from Contract Source, 5/3 to discuss video shelving options. B. Honeywell adjusted the air conditioning system 5/22. PROGRAMS A. The Friends met 5/1 with nine members present. B. The last bulk loan was delivered to the schools 5/4. The cooperation of Captain Roddy, the CSO's, and Keith Windschitl made this program possible. Final pick-up for the school year was 5/31. C. The Board met 5/2 with five members present D. Marsha visited Central Middle School 5/10 to recruit participants for the puppeteer workshop. E. Shari met with Madge Sandgren and Evelyn Reinholdson 5/10 to start the oral history project that will gather information about the City. F. Becky met with Dana Alexon 5/12 to look at historical items owned by the Fire Department. He generously agreed to lend some items for use in the display case at the Anoka County Historical Society Museum and to let the Library make copies of old records for the vertical file. G. Mary conducted a tour 5/16 for 12 ESL students. VI. VII. H. Becky met with Tom Sherohman 5/16 to look at vintage photographs taken by his grandfather. He has located a photo of the entrance to Forest Park. I. Marsha and Shari met with Mike Anderson from the Northeaster 5/18 to discuss coverage of the Library's entry in the parade and the "memories" contest for Heights Pride. J. Shari attended the senior citizen program at Murzyn Hall 5/18 to encourage the seniors to enter the Library's "Memories" contest. K. Marsha assisted at the first CHASE program on 5/20. The Twin Cities Puppet Guild conducted an all-day workshop for twelve teens on puppeteering. Shari videotaped several segments. L. Becky and Marsha met with the pages to negotiate summer schedule 5/22. M. On 5/23 Becky met with Julienne Wyckoff and Steve Johnson, Planning and Zoning Commissioner, to discuss historic preservation. Julienne will be making a presentation to the City Council at their next work session on June 5. N. Marsha, Kelly, and Becky met with the volunteens on 5/24 to set up their summer schedule. O. Marsha and Jean Kuehn videotaped seniors at the high school for use as public service announcements. P. Marsha and Kelly visited the elementary schools the week of May 30 to promote the summer reading clubs and programs. Q. The Friends' Preview night for the Booksale was held 5/31. R. Much work has been done during the month preparing for Heights Pride/Jamboree week. The Library will have an entry in the parade and will sponsor an essay contest called, "Memories from the Pages of My Mind." AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A. Preparations are being made to install two Internet browsers through the Anoka County Library system. STAFF A. G. H. I. J. K. MISC A. Shari, Marsha, and Becky have been exploring float possibilities for use in the Jamboree Parade. Shari and Marsha went to Victory Corps Supply 5/1 to price various float supplies. Marsha hosted the first meeting of the Storytime Kits Committee on 5/2. Marsha is Chair of this project to compile and purchase circulating packets of materials suitable for conducting a thematic storytime. Becky attended the World Day of Prayer service conducted by the Columbia Heights Ministerial Association on 5/4. Becky and Marsha met 5/10 with Kathy Winter, new representative for Facts on File. Interviews for the vacant page positions were conducted 5/10 and 5/11. One candidate received a conditional offer of employment. Applications will be taken again from May 22 to June 2. Becky helped grade the Police Department's CSO's written tests 5/12. Becky attended the Mayor's prayer breakfast 5/16. Shari attended training 5/18 on the City's video taping equipment. Kelly attended the Prom at Crestview on 5/19. Marsha attended the Immaculate Conception School Good Citizen Luncheon 5/25. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 5/30. Becky and Barb Miller met with Bert Greener of Fredrikson and Byron on 5/9. They discussed the mechanism and process of setting up a foundation as a fund raising entity for the Library. A MELSA survey was conducted 5/11.
