FRIENDS: I met with sixteen members of the Friends of the Library for a dinner meeting on Monday, April 3, at 5:30 p.m. at the Keys Restaurant in Spring Lake Park. They discussed the upcoming book sale and passed around sign up sheets to work at the sale. Jane Polley suggested a letter be sent to the members of the Bridge Marathon to thank them for their donations. She also would like a gift list of items purchased by the Friends included. The members agreed this would be a good idea. Their next meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 1, at 1:00 p.m. at the library. At this meeting, the final plans for the book sale will be made. B. HOMEBOUND: Nine deliveries were made through the "At Home Service" this month. One of these deliveries was to a new patron. C. BULK LOANS: I selected and processed two bulk loans and delivered them to Parkview Villa and Heights Manor on Wednesday, April 5. Collection development: A. VERTICAL FILE: I drafted a letter to be sent to the state offices of tourism and with Shari's help the letters were addressed and sent out. States have been responding by sending packets of tourism materials. These items will be labeled and added to the vertical file. B. Before the month is over, I plan to do an order for books-on-tape. Projects and Goals A. TAX FORMS: The end of the tax season finally came, and the display dismantled. Most of the library staff thought that we had fewer patrons in this year for forms than in previous years. This might be because many patrons downloaded their forms from the Internet. B. NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK: National Library Week was celebrated, April 9-15 with the theme, "It's OK to be library smart". I prepared a proclamation which was signed by the Mayor and posted on the main bulletin board. A "Guess how many Smarties rolls" contest was held and a prize drawing. Barnes and Noble gift certificates were awarded as prizes. I also created a bulletin board with the National Library Week theme. C. BOOK DISPLAY/BOOKMARK: I selected books on birds, gardening, and outdoor projects for April's book display. Barb Kondrick selected titles for a bookmark to accompany this display which was a cooperative effort which included typing by Jeanine and a format designed by me. D. SUPPLY ORDER: The copy paper order was received. Miscellaneous office and library supplies were also ordered. E. GRAPHICS: I completed the design for the new library card and sent it off the 2nd week in April. The card proof will be sent back to us for approval as soon as possible. Miscellaneous B. C. D. E. F.
