Rebecca Loader, Library Director April operational report April 27, 2000 BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. The baseboard in the activity room was replaced 4/11. B. The down spouts were re-installed on the west side of the building by Public Works on 4/7. C. Public Works installed a screen cover over the opening behind the discharge terminal in the work room 4/19. D. The roof leaked in the East Room 4/20. Dalco responded and repaired some caulking around the air conditioning unit. COLLECTION A. Two large book orders were placed. B. "Discard and delete" titles from the County were processed. C. Paperback books were received. EQUIPMENT A. No new equipment was received. PROGRAMS A. The Friends met 4/3 at Keys Caf6 with 16 members in attendance. B. Twilight Tales evening story times were held 4/4 (6 children, 6 adults) and 4/11 (20 children, 5 adults). C. The Board met 4/4 with six people present. Catherine Vesley was welcomed as a new member. D. ;;Peter Pan" was shown at the Heights Theater on 4/8 and 4/9 as a benefit for the Library. Owners David Holmgren and Thomas Letness donated $690.00 to the Library for children's materials. E. National Library Week was celebrated 4/9-4/15. Contests were held in both departments. F. Columbia Heights hosted the Anoka County Library public service meeting 4/13. Mr. Gene Meyers, librarian at the Anoka County Law Library, and Mr. Jim Hendricks, head of reference at Northtown, were speakers for the program. G. Sandi Engquist, member of the Friends and deliverer of Homebound materials, was featured in the Northeaster's article on volunteers. H. Tax season ended 4/17. IRS volunteer Debra Patrin worked 26 hours since January assisting the people in locating the forms they needed. i. Six sessions of ;;Planting Pals" were held on 4/18 and 4/25 with a total attendance of 91 children and 34 adults. Old Country Buffet provided a bee as a special guest. J. Marsha presented a program 4/27 for participants in ;;Take Your Child to Work Day." VI. VII. VIII IX AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A. An internal system upgrade was installed 4/21. B. DRA, the automation vendor, has solicited feedback from users on areas of the software programs that need to be changed. Suggestions were submitted by staff for consideration. STAFF A. B. C. D. E. F. G. Page applications were accepted throughout the month of April. Becky met with Steve Sherry of Contract Source on 4/5 to review options for video shelving. Becky attended a meeting on 4/10 with representatives from Mitel, the new telephone system company, to go over various advanced functions available. Shari met with Dave Holmgren 4/10 to discuss Heights Pride, the parade, and preparation of the documents needed to apply for historic status for the building. Marsha met with the Central Middle School Media Specialist on 4/12 to go over future programs. Rachel Wells had a performance review. Barb Miller, Board president, and Becky attended the City Council meeting 4/24 to officially accept the donation from the Heights Theatre. The City Council also presented a certificate of recognition to the Theatre for the work done to the property and their support of the community. Shari and Dave took a field trip 4/26 to look at the original blueprints of the Heights Theatre building. Marsha and Becky met with Cyndi and Keith from Recreation about the CHASE grant 4/26. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 4/26. MISC A. B. A MELSA survey was conducted 4/11. The Library participated in the tornado drill conducted 4/13.
