Collection We continued weeding from the non fiction collection. With Kelly's help we have completed weeding J000 thru J399. Kelly began the J700s Dec. 3 and has progressed through J791. The Non fiction "goals" for 1999 were J700's, J100's, J200's, J300's, J600's, J800's, and J900's. The last three sections will remain incomplete as of 1999. In order to stay abreast of the County's weeding process we will pick up these three sections in January and then move on to the scheduled weeding for 2000. Non fiction sections scheduled for next year are: Jan J600s (partial), J700s (partial) March J000-099 April J300 (partial) August J920-J929 October J500- J599 We also completed the weeding of the J fiction collection over this last year. According to the schedule we should have completed the YA fiction and the Ej fiction as well. These will be moved into next year's schedule and time permitting we will complete them in the first quarter of 2000. The County has sent me a listing of Low circ and High circ items from our easy collection. I intend to begin working on these in January (time permitting). The suggestion that has been made is that we consider items that have not circulated 35 times as a possible discard. I also hope to enlist the aid of the Pages and begin weeding the paperback collections (Jpb, YApb and EJpb). This is a lot of weeding over the first quarter of next year and will only be a top priority based on the departmental goals being set for the same time period. III. Projects We have a few projects that were started this year and are in various stages of completion: A. Chase grant application-- we are awaiting final word (in writing) from the State as to the status of this application. I hope to hear soon after the first of the year. st B. 21 Century Grant and collaboration- other than the initial meeting sometime in August I have heard nothing additional regarding the status of this project. I have a call in to Judy Yantos requesting a meeting. C. Bulk loans to ICS, CMS, and Highland have been progressing without incident. It appears that this program is meeting the requirements of all parties. Thank you to the CSO's who have devoted their time and efforts aiding in the delivery of the items. IV. Staff I joined the Director in 2 separate page evaluations this month: Susan Miller and Tanu Verma. We have had only one page downstairs again this month due to our recent staff shortages. This has hampered the productivity coming from the department but despite the shortage we are still managing to shelve materials, discharge and package bulk loans, continue working on the J mending project and for the most part, complete the scheduled shelf reading. The new pages need more experience at the desk and with shelving and shelf reading. The additional projects are suffering however. Hopefully we will be back to normal soon. If we give the current staff another 3 months, and get staffing up to our normal capacity, I think we will see a significant improvement. Kelly Olson has aided in the selection and distribution of the bulk loans to the schools, aided the librarian in weeding of the J non-fiction, started the year end collection of statistical data required for annual reports, and received the final orders of materials for 1999.
