November operational report

Significant Accomplishments
A. The Board met on 11/1 with all members present.
B. The Friends met on 11/7 with 12 members present. Becky and Marsha presented
the annual Wish List. The Friends voted to purchase the following items:
compact disc rack, tabletop book racks, literature rack, cd/ac recorder/player,
and a selection of puppets.
Senior Citizen Filmtime on 11/9 had 29 in attendance for a slide program.
Twelve sessions of pre-school storytime were held in November with a total
attendance of 151 children and 32 adults.

Departmental Goals
A, Becky attended the public service meeting on I1/10.
B. The 2.4 software upgrade was installed on the acs on 11/11.
C. National Children's Book Week was celebrated 11/14-11/19.
D. Marsha was a guest reader at Valley View Elementary on 11/15.
E. Becky was invited to Irm~culate Conception School for lunch and a tour on
11/17. The student tour guides were exceptional.
F. A No-Waste Holiday display was put up by Jean Kuehn in the adult reading room.
G. The new signage for the adult reading room arrived 11/22. The new range finders
all comply With ADA recommendations.
Jeanine participated in a cable shoot on 11/22.
The library has received donations from: VFW post 230 ($200 for audio books),
VFW post 230 Ladies Auxiliary ($25 for audio books), and Thomas Sullivan ($100
for children's books).
Project Bookshelf started on 11/7 and will continue till 12/16.
The library is a Toys for Joy depot again this year.
The camcorder circulated three times in November.

Issues and Problems
A. A small boy cut his face when he fell against a shelf in the basement. The
appropriate insurance forms were filled out and filed on 11/16.
B. On 11/30 a man was discovered on the floor of the main floor restroom. The
appropriate authorities were notified, and they dealt with the situation.
C. An odor problem with the floor drain in the basement has been dealt with.

SUBJECT: Operational Report, November 1994.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY: The Friends of the Library met On Monday, November 7, at 1:00 p.m. with 12
members present. Becky and Marsha presented the wish list. From the list, the Friends selected the following
items to pumhase: a literature display rack and CD displayer for the adult library and two table top book racks,
puppets, and a CD/Dual audio cassette recorder for the children's department. The Friends will be participating
in Project Bookshelf, and several of the members will be helping at SACA's annual toy distribution. They will be
contacting members to bring holiday cookies for the December Senior Citizen Time and discussed projects for
1995. ^ new person who attended this meeting decided to become a member of the Friends.
SENIOR CITIZEN PROGRAMMING: On Wednesday, November 9, Margaret Woolner showed slides of Europe.
Her program lasted approximately one hour and the attendance was 29. The Friends served refreshments after
the program.
HOMEBOUND SERVICE: I selected books and arranged delivery to eight homebound patrons this month. One
of these patrons was a new recipient.
BOOK DISPLAYS: On November 17, I set up the book display, "Read Across America". This display coordinates
with this month's bulletin board. On November 29 set up a display of holiday books.
DELIVERY OF BOOKS TO PARKVlEW VILLA: On Friday, November 4, I delivered 30 books to Parkview Villa
and returned with 28. The circulation on those returned was 33.
LIBRARY CARDS: I completed the design for our new library cards and sent it in with our order to Plastic
Products on November 3. On November 29, received proof, made changes and approved it.
AUDIO CASSETTE SELECTION AND PURCHASE: Selected audio books and placed an order for them on
November 11 to Baker and Taylor and Audio Editions. On November 14, I went to the Musicland store and
purchased audio cassettes of music to add to our collection.
NEWSLETTER: Ran off 300 copies of the November edition of "The Library Sampler'' and on Monday, November
21, gave to Kelly copy for the December issue.
REQUESTS FOR DONATIONS TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL AUDIO BOOKS: On November 3, I called Karen
Schaub about the letter I sent her in July requesting a donation from the Columbia Heights/Fridley Kiwanis to
pumhase additional audio books. She said that she had received my letter but forgot to put it on the agenda. She
also told me she is no longer the president of the organization, and I ought to resubmit my letter to Charles
Dettman, the current president. Charles Dettman is also the president of NEI, and on November 4, I delivered a
letter to his office. Also on this date, I contacted Russ Paulson, Lions Club president, about the letter I sent his
organization. He was not at home and I left a message and a request to call me on his answering machine. On
November 15, I received a check for $200.00 to be used for audio books from the Columbia Heights Post No. 230
VFW and on November 18, received a check for $25.00 for audio books from the VFW Ladies Auxiliary 230. I sent
thank you notes to these organizations on November 23.
SHELF LIST FILING AND WITHDRAWN SHEETS: On November 17, I finished filing all the current shelf list cards
and completed the withdrawns. As of this time, I'm caught up on this project.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND PROJECTS:
Produced signs and flyers to publicize Project Bookshelf.
Submitted two designs to Heather Cook for the printing of notepads and bookmarks for the Adult Reading
Club.
Took our Services and Policies brochure to IPC Printing for printing on November 4. Our order was
delivered to the library on November 23, but needs to be redone. The color printed on the cover was streaked,
and the brochure contained two mistakes. I called IPC, and they will redo the order.
During the week of November 21, I sent news releases to the .Focus and Northeaster about the December
Senior Citizen Film Time program.
