Significant Accomplishments
The Friends met on 2/1 with 10 members present.
Read-to-Me Club began 2/1 and currently has 115 children participating.
Eight sessions of pre-school storytime were held in February with a total
of 172 participants.
Eight sessions of Tiny Tots were held in February with 260 participants.
The Board met on 2/2 with 5 members present.
Twenty people attended Senior Citizen Filmtime on 2/10.
Woodcrest Baptist Academy brought 16 kindergarteners to the library for
a field trip on 2/18.
Departmental Goals
A. Kelly attended Municipals on 2/2. Her report is attached.
B. Becky attended a workshop entitled, "Designing and Supervising an Internship,"
on 2/10. Carol Frey, Volunteer Coordinator, presented the workshop for City
employees.
C. On 2/11 Becky met with the other county public library directors for the
quarterly automation meeting.
D. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot on 2/19.
E. On 2/19 the library participated in the tour of facilities presented to the
City Manager candidates.
Issues and Problems
A. The character generator for Channel 53 is out for repairs. It should return 3/8.
B. Minnegasco detected a leak in the line going into the library building on 2/12.
It has been temporarily patched, and the line is scheduled to be replaced in
the spring.
C. Honeywell replaced the basement thermostat on 2/2, the furnace filters on 2/4
and completed the retrofit on 2/16. '

I had the opportunity to attend the Municipals Winter Workshop on February 2, 1993, at
the Earle Browne Continuing Education Center.
Our first speaker was Jeffrey L. Thompson, who spoke to us on personal leadership. His
definition of personal leadership included: the strength to admit when you are wrong, attending
to the little things in life, and understanding that you cannot change other people, change begins
with you. I felt that these were some important point that can be instilled in to both work and
personal relationships. Mr. Thompson was informative and enjoyable to listen to.
Bill Joynes, the City Manager of Golden Valley spoke on ethics in the public sector. Your
ethics are tested on a daily basis and all you need to do is read the paper to see how true this
is. When you are in a situation where ethics are involved, you should ask yourself three things.
1) Golden Rule - do unto others. 2) Publicity Rule - would you be comfortable if your decision
was publicized on the front page of tomorrow's paper. 3) Kid on your shoulder - would you be
making this decision if your child was watching? Ethics are not always clear, and you should
always use good judgement when involved in the public sector.
