SUBJECT: Operational Report #36 (December 1-December 15, 1990)

I. Significant Accomplishments
A. The Friends met on 12/3 with twelve members in attendance. They
made decorations from patterns supplied by Ralph Nelson for
the children's department.
B. The library's 1901Willard piano received a much-needed tune-up
from Bob's Piano Service this week.
C. The Board met on 12/4 with all members present.
D. Three sessions of Christmas crafts were held on 12/11 (34 present),
12/12 (34 present), and 12/13 (41 children, 38 adults present).
E. Svea Smith brought 20 students to the library for a field trip on 12/11.
Ms. Smith works with students of English as a second language.
F. 60 senior citizens enjoyed a Christmas party at the.library on 12/14 with
entertainment supplied by the first graders from Immaculate Conception
School.
G. 22 Kindergarteners from ICS came to the library 12/14 for a field trip.
II. Departmental Goals
A..The brown room and boardroom received new carpeting on 12/7. The Public
Works Department crew (Lauren McClanahan, Larry Poundstone, Terry Randall,
and Bob Verbrugge) did an outstanding job of using the NovaTech Stack Mover
to move the fully-loaded bookstacks for the carpeting people. This machine
is owned by MELSA for use by members for just such projects.
B. The glass window on the north side of the building is scheduled for repair.
C. The amended budget was submitted 12/6/90.
D. On 12/6 Mary Kloss was a guest at the Golden Age Club Christmas dinner.
E. The library is a depot for Toys for Joy, which distributes toys through
SACA for Christmas.
F. Project Bookshelf was a success. These books will be distributed through
SACA for Christmas also. The Friends sponsored this program in conjunction
with Lieutenant-Governor Marlene Johnson's statewide project.
III.
Issues and Problems
A. The phone system has experienced some problems with cutting off callers
over the past week. Staff has reported this to the proper people.
B. On 12/10 a man attempted to expose himself to a patron. A report was
filed with police, and a warning was sent out to neighboring libraries.
