On April 18, I participated in a workshop entitled, "CORE and MORE:
Reference Excellence in Training." CORE (California Opportunities
for Reference Excellence) was a project sponsored by the California
State Library Agency to reach as many librarians as possible with
quality training in reference skills. The program was set up in four
sections, and the state library eventually required every practicing
librarian in California to take and to pass the basic course. The
presenter walked the participants through parts of each section and
provided each of us with complete instructional packets which may be
reproduced for use in our own in-house training programs.
After the formal session, a committee met to adapt the California-
specific parts to Minnesota. The results will be distributed at the
Minnesota Library Association conference in October.
This workshop was outstanding. It was informative, interesting, and
very applicable to my job position.
