Mary Cooper and I attended a Melsa storytelling workshop at the North Regional
library in Minneapolis on Tuesday morning, March 6th. Fifteen children's lib-
rarians shared their favorite ideas for conducting storytimes. Demonstrations
included the use of puppets, flannelboards, favorite .songs and fingerplays, and
a variety of storytelling devices. Ideas were also given on how to keep story-
times orderly and quiet. Each attending storyteller provided a list of favorite
stories to tell, plus titles of newer books that have been used successfully in
storytimes. The workshop was very useful and informative.
Joanne Scudder
Joanne Scudder and I attended a storytelling workshop on March 6, 1990. This
MELSA sponsored workshop featured more than a dozen librarians each sharing their
experiences and methods. We were told about new authors, techniques for keeping
children's attention, as we]l as creative visual aids to use during storytime.
I also received a list of favorite books to use during storytime. This was a
fantastic workshop, and I am glad I was able to attend.
