BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. Carpet tiles were installed 9/5 in the basement hallway.
B. The roof repair bids were due back 9/15. Two were

COLLECTION
A. A survey of reference book use started 9/2 in the adult and children's departments.
Every time a book is used, the date is logged on a slip which has been placed in the
front of the book. The results will be used to evaluate how the reference collection
will be developed next year.
B. Small press titles were ordered on 9/16.
C. A new filmstrip borrowing policy and procedure are being formulated.
D. Marsha and Becky met 9/18 to compile a book order and to plan expenditures for
the rest of 1997. Long range collection development goals for 1998 were discussed
and prioritized..
E. Becky purchased adult paperbacks at Bookmen 9/26.
EQUIPMENT
A. An outlet strip was installed in the office to straighten out the tangled mass of wires
from the computer equipment housed there.
B. Public works repaired the lawn mower 9/8.
C. Becky received Ron McGriff's preliminary report on the security system on 9/8.
Becky met with Ron and Jay Oine, carpentry expert, on 9/16 to finalize plans for the
desk modifications. A spec sheet has been prepared for both desks, and estimates
are due back 9/29.
D. Becky will be making site visits to four Anoka County Library branches the week of
9/22 to compare different types of hardware used by the new security system. This
information will be used to determine which models will be purchased for use at
Columbia Heights.
PROGRAMS
A. The Board met 9/2 with all members present.
B. Mary delivered bulk loans to Parkview Villa and Heights Manor on 9/3.
C. The Friends met 9/8 with five members present.
D. Valley View 3rd and 4~ graders visited the library on 9/17 as part of their walking tour
of Columbia Heights.
Immaculate Conception School class visits start the week of 9/22.

Marsha will conduct a special storytime for ECFE on 9/24.
A MELSA reference and attendance survey was conducted 9/29 with the help of the
Friends.
Bernie and Tony put up a display in honor of Polish/American heritage month 9/30.
Marsha presented a special storytime for Fourth Baptist School 9/30.
AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM
A. The Anoka County Library changed most of their phone numbers effective 9/17.
Handouts are being produced to give out to the patrons. The renewal and dial-up
numbers were also changed.
B. Becky is investigating the use of receipt printers to take the place of the old date-
due cards.
STAFF
A. The Tier II raises have been implemented as of 9/1 for all part-time employees who
were included in the ranges changed by the new minimum wage laws.
B. Becky attended Optical Imaging meetings on 9/3 and 9/17.
C. Interviews were held for the page positions on 9/3 and 9/4. Laud Willard and
Rebecca Patrin were hired and began training 9/15.
D. Jeanine attended a meeting 9/10 to work on the Municipals banquet.
E. Becky assisted the Police Chief 9/11 in scoring the essay Section of the CSO
applications.
F. Mary has been selected as one of five finalists in MLA's public relations competition.
She submitted the library's one-page annual report brochure. She will be making
a presentation 10/2 at the MLA annual conference.
G. Becky attended the Anoka County Library Public Service meeting 9/25.
H. Jeanine was trained onthe scanner at City Hall on 9/25.
I. Marsha injured her arm at work on 9/16. The appropriate paperwork has been
submitted.
MISC
A.
Saturday hours changed to 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on 9/6, and Saturday delivery
resumed the same day.
