Rebecca Loader, Library Director August operational report August 27, 1997 BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Orkin planted ant bait at selected sites within the building on 8/6. This type is non- toxic to humans. They will return every other month until the ant problem is under control. B. Honeywell re-inspected the air conditioning unit on the east roof. They recommended that the fins which were bent by a falling tree branch be bent back into place. Bill Antzaras accomplished this and trimmed some tree branches the week of August 11. C. The carpet in the basement was cleaned 8/9. D. The exterior opener on the automatic door had to have the battery replaced 8/11. E. Central Lock and Safe replaced the emergency door on the east side of the main floor 8/12. The new door is 16-gauge metal with a detex alarm. F. The carpet in the adult reading room was cleaned 8/30. COLLECTION A. Orders for audio cassettes, video cassettes, compact discs, and books have been placed. B. The adult fiction mending project has progressed to the letter "P". C." The deleted charged/assumed lost items from 1987-94 have been removed from the shelf list up through the 600's in the adult non-fiction. D. The easy inventory is progressing. The following letters are complete: A, C, D, E, F, G, and N through Z. EQUIPMENT A. One PAC (public access computer) terminal has a blown screen and cannot be restored. This is one of the original CRT's purchased in 1987, so it has had a full life. B. The City has finally been able to emulate the ACS (automated circulation system) on one of the network pc's. The ACS terminal freed up by this process has been used to replace the blown PAC terminal. C. Becky met on 8/27 with Ron McGriff, consultant, about the proposed security system. PROGRAMS A. The Friends met on 8/4 with eight members present. B. The Board met on 8/4 with four members present. recycled paper IV. VII. Vickie Wendell from the Anoka County Historical Society presented a program entitled "Jennie Powell" on 8/5 to 68 children and 12 adults. Marsha met with Mr. Brown, principal of Immaculate Conception School, on 8/12 to discuss potential services and scheduling. Summer Reading Clubs all ended August 22. A grand total of 748 children participated. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A. The public-use printer has been extremely helpful for printing periodical articles from the online index. B. The next software upgrade should be coming sometime this fall. STAFF A. Both page candidates who accepted the positions resigned before training started. A new ad was placed in the 8/13/97 edition of the Focus with a closing date of 8/27. This has set back training until September and forces the start of fall schedule with a crew of seven pages rather than eight. B. Nathan Ambrose started work as the library's new choreperson 8/11. C. Becky attended an Information Imaging meeting on 8/6. D. Kelly attended a Safety Committee meeting 8/7. 5. Jeanine and Kelly attended a Muncipals planning meeting 8/13. F. The pages met on 8/18 to negotiate fall schedule. Police Chief Tom Johnson met with all the part-time employees to discuss personal safety in a public building and crisis situations. G. Becky attended an Information Imaging meeting on 8/19. H. Karl Kyle completed 6-months as a page at the library on 8/13. I. Marsha attended a meeting at Northtown on series books in the collection on 8/26. J, -' Kelly attended a Municipals meeting on 8/27. K. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 8/28. MISC A. A survey is being taken concerning telephone look-ups using the patron's "has list". The survey will end 9/13 and concerns data privacy. The Anoka County Library system was closed 8/22 for a-staff in-service day. Summer hours end 8/30.
