B. Funtime Registration: We have 40 children registered for'
our summer Funtime *Storytime. Registrations closed on May 2~
nearly three weeks prior to the first session. We are taking a
waiting list.
C. Summer Reading Club (SRC) Registrations will begin June 9
for the 1997 SRC. At this time all flyers are printed and
distributed. Prizes have been purchased. Wave Pool passes have
arrived. Reading Records, Bookmarks, and Pins are hbre. The
bookmarks have been reprinted to include COH phone# on the
reverse side. The omission was an oversight on the part of an
ACL staff member - [ have been assured it, wilt not happen again.
These items remain to be completed before June O: SRC Bulletin
board; printing of additional flyers for in--house distribution.
These will take first priority upon my return. Crystal Mielke
has agreed to help with the lettering for the bulletin boards in
my absence. Thank you Crystal!
D. Super Tuesdays flyers are completed and have been
distributed. We have an excellent selection of programs this
summer. The Children's Department budget covered all program
expenses except for one performer and approximately $25.00 of the
remaining seven performers. Kelly Olson has copy for separate
in-house flyers in the works and I am preparing weekly news
releases for the local papers. It should be a great season!
E. School Visits. Kelly and I have completed our annual
visits to all elementary schools within the c~ty. We both came
away from the schools with the same impressions: North Park and
Valley View schools had classes: with a majority of students who
either recognized us, had participated in the Reading Club, been
to storytime, or been to our ]:ibrary.
At Highland we encountered a majority of students who did not
recognize us or were unfamiliar with the library and it's
programs. This was a change over last year's response.
I would like to see us get more :involved with the public schools.
I have some ideas for programs that we could explore:
1.Expand the winter reading club---possibly making it a
part of each schools literature program with teacher/
administration support.
2. Develop a library policy and cooperative program with
PERA's providing research aid and use of materials. This would
have to meet the current service requirements between ACL and COH
but I believe we could work something out.
3. Have a School and Library day or week with field trips
for classes to the library. If this is held in the spring or
fall classes could walk. The library could provide stories,
puppet plays, and tours.
4. Link the school media centers to the Public Library
catalogs and develop a system for Interlibrary loans.
F. Volunteers. We have twelve volunteers this season.
Five are returns from last year's group of eight. All are
excellent prospects for the summer and future employment
candidates. The Children's Department will be very busy! The
volunteers will add 48 hours per week to the library staff. It
will take a great deal of effort to harness their enthusiasm,
energy and talents.

III. Staff
A. The Staff has been outstanding! After my absence of
nearly six weeks, everyone pitched in and turned on a mammoth
effort to prepare for Summer Pro,rams. Because of this effort,
and only because of it, we are ready the 1997 Summer Season.
Thank you all.!
