Collection
A. While I was recovering I prepared two book orders. I am holding them at this time to check against the
collection and should be able to place an order soon. I also prepared a J/YA audio cassette order and a
book and tape combination order. The PO's for these were placed and I believe the order has been sent.
I have begun weeding the J Paperbacks and linking those titles we will keep to the database. This is a slow
process and will take some time. Hopefully, by the end of summer it will be complete.
Projects
A. Funtime: Brochures are ready for printing and crafts for three of seven sessions are prepared.
B. Super Tuesday: All eight performers have been booked, brochures are being typed, printing to take place
the first week or two in May.
C. Summer Reading Club flyers are reading for printing and folding. I have booked dates to visit all elementary
schools. Valleyview - May 19 at 9:00 A.M., Highland - May 21 at 9:00 A.M., North Park at 9:00 May 22 at
9:00 A.M.
D. Volunteers: A letter has been sent to all volunteers from last year asking if they would like to return again
this year. I will be distributing flyers to 6th and 7~h grade classes throughout the city looking for new volutneer
candidates for 1997. The flyer has been finished and is ready for printing. Applications and interest surveys
have been printed and are available at the Children's Department circulation desk. A news release has been
prepared and sent to the local papers. I have planned a meeting with volunteers for May 21 at 3:30 P.M.
to prepare for summer schedule.
IV.
Departmental Goals: Have been placed on hold during my nearly two months absence. Thanks to Kelly Olson's hard
work and determination public service continued with as little disruption as possible. I did some work at home during
my mending process which enabled the upcoming schedule to remain achievable. Kelly and I will be playing catch-
up through May, however. I am hopeful that Kelly will be able to complete her goals for 1996 before June 10. In any
event she deserves a big thank you and a lot of credit for the hard work she put in over the last two months-many
thanks. We will both be back on schedule with personal and departmental goals by June.
Staff
Pages - We are continuing to find mis-shelved items in groups of 5-8. This is very disruptive as several sectoins
now have repeat runs! I am checking each section shelf-read daily, but feel this is not a shelf-reading problem
but a shelving problem. Beginning in May I will be asking the pages to place a slip in the books they shselve with
their initials on it. Hopefully, this will fix the problem before summer. We are also finding more and more bad
check-ins at the desk, more and more items shelved and not discharged. This will generate a fine for the patron
or possibly a bill. I have asked the pages to use my desk as a discharging station. I hope that by separating
check out from check in the problem will be solved. Page projects this month included: processing
paperbacks, shelf-reading, magazine pockets, and mending.
Kelly completed the typing for the following items: volunteer letters, contract for Historical Society programs,
Funtime flyers, Summer Reading Club flyers, Library Sampler, variety of PO's, budget requests, linked
magazines, and received books.

Miscellaneous
A. I attended a Values First meeting on Tuesday April, 15. This effort is very worthwhile as with any grassroots effort,
it has been slow to start but the embers are burning. I think we will see great things in the near future.
