HomeMy WebLinkAboutDecember 30, 1996TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: M. Rebecca Loader, Library Director Marsha Tubbs, Children's Librarian December 30, 1996 December Operational Report STORYTIMES: We held four Holiday Storytime sessions during the month of December and had 30 children attend each week with 20 adults. Each week featured a craft. The children made puzzle wreaths and Santa puppet book marks. ICS CLASSES: With holiday programs and vacations at ICS this month, the class schedule of visits was reduced. We saw only 21 classes this month; still a ful___~l month, but not the 29+ of last month. Programs for the classes included a story- telling of The Christmas ,quest, and Peef, the Christmas bear. COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT/SELECTION: Final book orders for 1996 were placed this month. We began the inventory of easy books (the first ever) and have completed S-Z. This inventory is slow and somewhat cumbersome as we are checking each entry for accuracy in the database as well as correcting our own shelf list. We have begun linking J Paperbacks to the database entries. Children/teens tend to read series titles and I feel that not having these entries within the catalog is miSleading as they have no indication that we own these titles. I am hopeful that linking them to the catalog will help promote circulation. MEETINGS: I attended a storytime/sharing meeting at NTN on December 5 at 2:00. All county Children's Librarians were present and brought stories/props/ideas to share with the group for future use in storytimes. A listing of materials followed the meeting. The Director and I met for a quarterly organizational meeting for the upcoming year, year-end procedures, and my upcoming performance evaluation. ORGANIZATIONAL DUTIES: I completed the 1996 Budget Expenditures and submitted fund transfers. I believe the children's budget is balanced in all areas except program supplies which may have a slight negative balance. I have prepared a chart indicating the new labels we have put to use in the Children's Department. I hope to get this posted along with a few remaining shelf Iocators/signage before mid-January. SUPERVISION: Kelly Olson, Clerk-Typist II, has been busy with year-end projects and will continue compiling 1996 statistics into January. She has aided me in the easy inventory and closed the Children's budget accounts. Kelly has these on-going projects at this time: retyping shelf list cards for J Fiction, making changes in the easy shelf list or books as we progress through the inventory, developing a YA booklist, and 1996 year-end statistics. The pages downstairs have been processing paperbacks, making parts for the Holiday crafts, mending, shelf-reading and transactions on non-fiction We are still having some shelving problems, more recently some confusion in the 921's regarding shelving by label vs. biography/author.
