Rebecca Loader, Library Director Marsha Tubbs, Children's Librarian September 27, 1996 Operational Report September 1996 ICS CLASSES: The classes began their weekly visits on September 16. We will be seeing all ICS classes grades K~7 with the exception of one third grade class. The schedule is demanding and there are times when I question the "service" but I do feel that this program has potential as a "testing" site for some new and innovative library and school cooperative projects. I have some ideas that we could use for discussion purposes. My goal, ultimately, would be to provide some type Of public library service to all schools in the community while reducing or at least maintain, the level of on-site visits. Meanwhile, our current schedule of storytime, class visits, and meetings consume a great portion of the day in the Children's Department. STORYTIME: Storytime will begin on October 1. We have 38 registered for our 2 or More, 47 registered for Tiny Tots (two sessions), and 15 registered for Lil' Tykes (two sessions). I believe ECFE has taken some of our Lil' Tykes (ages 4-5) activity. A number of people mentioned that they would bring a sibling to Tiny Tots while the brother or sister attended ECFE. VOLUNTEERS: The volunteer recognition ceremony on September 3, was a big hit. Many volunteers expressed an interest in .repeating the program next summer or throughout the school year. Parent comments were very favorable and pizza, thanks to Pizza Man Jim Bagaason was greatly appreciated. SUPERVISION: One of our volunteers will be working some additional hours to complete a community service requirement. She will be relabeling our biographies both upstairs and down. This week was the first month of the Fall schedule and the new pages have settled in well. I am pleased to report that the nightly duty lists are be~ir~completed each evening, with time to spare. The pages, as a group, take direction well and corrections are taken to heart, with the appropriate results. There are some areas we need to work on (shelving and shelf reading) but I am optimistic that time will fix these problems. COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT: We have completed inventory and weeding of half of the EJ Fiction. The remaining EJ Fiction should be completed by the end of October. I am going to have the pages begin transactions on the pocket of the book. This should make weeding this collection easier. Collection development plan for 1997 was submitted to the Library Director this month. I targeted the easy collection for inventory and weeding along with the 921 and a portion of the 700's. This could be an expensive section to develop as there are many "standard" titles and authors either missing or in need of replacement here at COH. I have begun discarding the damaged items. The next step will be to inventory those remaining titles. COMING IN OCTOBER: Filmstrip catalog Storytime Inventory Book orders Budget expenditures Seasonal goals Classes
