Operational Report, November 1995
November 29, 1995
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY: On Monday, November 6, 1995, the Friends of the Library met with 9 members
present. Becky and Marsha presented their wish list. The Friends decided to purchase the file cabinet, Karaoke
party machine, video shelf adapters, and filmstrip projector. They decorated a box for Project Bookshelf and again
volunteered to bake and serve cookies for the December Senior Citizen Time. They voted to have another book
sale in the summer of 1996.
SENIOR CITIZEN PROGRAMMING: On Wednesday, November 8, 1995, Helen McNulty presented a slide
program on Greece and the Greek Isles. Twenty-seven senior citizens attended this program, and refreshments
were served by the Friends of the Library.
To publicize the December Senior Citizen Time, I designed and produced a small brochure advertising the
program. This brochure was distributed at the November program, and is available in the library and also at the
Senior Center in Murzyn Hall. (See attached)
During November, I arranged for two slide programs for 1996: On January 10, Bob Ernt will show slides of New
Zealand; On February 14, 1996, Helen McNulty will show her slide program, "A week on a barge in France, the
leisurely way". Both of these programs will be presented free-of-charge.
DISPLAYS: I selected books for and set up two book displays this month: "Books you may have missed" features
newer non-fiction and "Holiday books" features a selection of books on Christmas lore, cookie baking, and holiday
entertaining.
HOMEBOUND SERVICE: During the month, I arranged homebound service for two patrons.
NEWSLETTER: I gave copy for the newsletter to Kelly on Friday, November 17. Three hundred copies of the
newsletter were runoff on Tuesday, November 28. Reducing the number of pages from 6 to 4 for the newsletter
made it easier and quicker to produce. I increased the number of copies duplicated from 250 to 300 this month
because we have been running short of them by the last week of the month.
DEPARTMENTAL GOALS: I completed updating my procedures manual the week of November 20.
BULLETIN BOARD: This month's bulletin board featured posters from the Anoka Public branch of the Anoka
County Library. I used the posters to publicize Children's Book Week, November 13-19. I also worked on my
holiday bulletin board with the theme, "Joy to the World. Let nature sing". This will be put up the week of
November 27.
WORKSHOPS: I attended the Data Privacy workshop on Wednesday, November 15.
OTHER AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY WORKED ON DURING THE MONTH: · Recorded supplies used from supply sign-out sheets.
· Ordered library supplies as needed.
· Selected and ordered prizes for the 1996 Adult Reading Club.
· Selected and ordered books-on-tape.
· Wrote a news release on the December Senior Citizen Time for the Northeaster and Focus
newspapers.
· Selected and purchased cassettes of music at Natural Wonders at Rosedale.
