And "may the force be with us all"! Summer Reading Club began June 12, by June 29 we had registered 434 children. I believe this to be somewhat slower than last year but registrations are coming in steadily. We are aiming for 800-900 this year. This program is a tremendous amount of work, but well worth the effort. Tuesday Specials: Our first Starring Tuesday program had a somewhat rocky start. The Pet Show did not receive the support I had expected. We had 8 children register their pets. 2 guinea pigs, 1 cat, and 5 dogs. In an effort to "fill in" the hour, I contacted Tropical Concepts and asked if they would be willing to bring some pets and talk to the children about pet care. Bryan arrived and brought amphibians native to Minnesota and he informed the children of "all" the pets they can find in the wilds of Minnesota. Our 8 contestants then presented their pets/tricks. The program went well after all. 53 children and 27 adults attended. June 27-Starring Tuesday was a Super 8 film festival Flintstones, Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, and the Jetsons. I was surprised at the turnout, though one person told me that they didn't come for the full-length features because 2 hours was too long a time period for little ones. Whilel was surprised at the turnout, I was disappointed as well. Camp Heights had contacted me asking permission to attend as a group-I agreed-they arrived 10 minutes late, 42 children and proceeded to disrupt the entire program. I contacted Diane Creese following the program and she and I decided that this group was too old for the program and too large for our capabilities at this time. Perhaps next year with a smaller, younger group. Funtime began June 22. We have had a lot of calls regarding this program. I expanded the age level to 3 - 7 year olds. We had 52 registrations. I anticipated 50% would show up-thus far we had 48 the first week and 39 the second. 12 adults attended each session. The children made monster bookmarks at the first session, and teddy bear puppets at the second. Book Orders: I submitted a book order this month for 1995 titles. The majodty of the order was J Fic, some YA and Easies. It is nice to be able to concentrate on brand new titles. I'm sure they will be well received. Collection Development: We have almost completed the inventory of audio cassettes. Some of the uncat titles are still to be located. I have forwarded to Jeanine those titles to be added to the catalog. Magazines: Kelly and the Pages have completed the magazine shift. 1989 issues were discarded and 1992 issues were moved downstairs. Kelly will be updating the holdings list for ACL SUPPLY INVENTORY: Kelly is in the process of developing/producing the forms necessary to implement our new supply inventory procedures. While this is time consuming today, I'm sure it will benefit us all in the future. The forms are complex and the new network has presented a few glitches, but should be successful in the end. NEXT MONTH: 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Produce puppet plays-3 Produce book props-3 Produce flannel boards-2 Begin re-writing Procedures Manual Distribute donations request letter Begin planning the Fall and Winter Programs
