Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: Operational report for April, 1995 DATE: April 28, 1995 significant Accomplishments A. The Friends met on 4/3 at the Dragon House for a dinner/meeting with 19 members present. B. The Board met on 4/4 with all members present. C. 27 people attended the April Senior Citizen Time. D. Four sessions of pre-school story and crafts were held in April with a total attendance of 49 children and 20 adults. Departmental Goals A. The camcorder circulated 7 times i~ April. B. National Library Week was celebrated April 10-15 with the theme, "Read." C. Reading clubs ended April 15 with a total of 135 participating in the adult club ("So Many Books...So Little Time") and 338 participating in the children's club ("Pagemaster"). D. Mary conducted a tour of the library for 9 students from NEI on 4/21. E. Jeanine attended a meeting on the City's central filing project on 4/25. F. Becky attended the County public service meeting on 4/27 at the Crooked Lake branch of APL. G. The first draft of the proposed 1996 budget was submitted to Finance on 4/25. Issues and Problems A. On 4/21 the elevator experienced a problem with the pump which circulates the hydraulic fluid necessary to make it work. It was repaired on 4/25. Kloss SUBJECT: Operational Report, April 1995 FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY: On Monday, April 3, 1995, the Friends of the Library met at the Dragon House Restaurant at 6:00 p.m. for dinner with a business meeting lollowing at 7:00 p.m. The dinner and meeting were well attended with 19 members present. At the meeting the Friends discussed their participation at the library's open house on May 20, 1995, in conjunction with Heights Pride Week and their book sale in June. Signup sheets were circulated for volunteering to work al lh~ open hous~ and I;)ook sale. The Friends also will bake cookies and bars for the open house. The dinner at the Dragon House was enjoyed by the Friends members, and they decided to make it an annual event. SENIOR CITIZEN PROGRAMMING: On Wednesday, April 12, Charles Nungesser showed slides of his trip to Scandinavia. Twenty-seven senior citizens attended this program and relreshments were served by the Friends of the Library. HOMEBOUND SERVICE: I selected books and arranged homebound service to 3 patrons this month. BOOK DISPLAY: "HOME PLATE HITS"--a book display of baseball books (fiction and non-fiction) was set out on April 3. DELIVERY OF BOOKS TO PARKVlEW VILLA: On Thursday, April 6, Shari Briley and I delivered 30 books to Parkview Villa. We returned with 27 with a circulation of 35. ADULT READING CLUB: The 5th annual adult reading club, "SO MANY BOOKS...SO LITTLE TIME" ended on Saturday, April 15. One hundred thirty-five adults registered for the club and 804 entdes (one per book read during the club) were in the drawing. 35 adults were "Out-standing Readers" for reading 10 or more books. BULLETIN BOARD: One of this year's guess contests for National Library Week was on the bulletin board. "How many reads?" was the theme. NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK: National Library Week was celebrated, April 9-15 with the theme "READ". I organized three guess contests, two for library patrons and one for the stall. Prizes for the contests were READ keychains, coffee mugs, and one $15.00 B. Dalton gift certificate. I also ordered bookmarks to be distributed to the public and buttons for the staff to wear. GRAPHICS: Designed and produced entry forms for the National Library Week contests, flyers publicizing the increase in adult fines and the open house, and signs publicizing the National Library Week contests, and inlormation how family members can pick up requests for each other by completing a form. NEWSLETTER: I duplicated 300 copies of the April Newsletter on Mamh 30 and gave the copy for the May newsletter to Kelly on April 21. MISCELLANEOUS: · Prepared a projected budget for Senior Citizen Time · Completed filing shelf list card and withdrawns for February · Ordered restaurant, resort, and motel guides from the Minnesota Restaurant Association for distribution to the public · Conducted a tour and made a presentation on the library to 9 students from NEI MMK/jms
