SUBJECT: Operational Report, August, 1999

Programs
A. FRIENDS: The Friends of the Library did not meet in August. Because of a scheduling conflict, President Nancy
Rathbun re-scheduled the first fall meeting, which was to be held in September, to Monday, October 4. This
meeting will be held at the Keys Restaurant, 8299 University Ave. N.E., Spring Lake Park. Dinner will be at
6:00 p.m. followed by an informal meeting at 7:00 p.m. Members will R.S.V.P. to Nancy if they plan to
attend. In November, the Friends will meet on the first at the library in the boardroom. I prepared a letter and
sent it out to each Friends' member informing them of the fall meeting dates and about my upcoming knee
surgery. This letter was sent out the week of August 30.
B. HOMEBOUND: This month I selected books for and arranged delivery to three homebound patrons.
C. BULK LOANS: I prepared bulk loans for Parkview Villa and Heights Manor and with the help of Kari Kyle,
delivered them on Wednesday, August 4.
II.
Collection
A. AUDIO BOOKS: The new audio books I ordered were received and added to the library's collection. They will
also be listed in the September newsletter.
B. VERTICAL FILE: I labeled the new pamphlets received and filed them. The following subjects were added to the
vertical file: Bahamas; Butterfly house; High blood pressure; Pregnancy; Rohypnol (date rape drug); Septic
systems; Twenty-one gun salute; Y2K. In the Columbia Heights file: Ordinance 556, Gas Co. Ordinance; and
Heights Theater. Inthe Minnesota file: Booksellers-MN.; Covered bridges -MN.; Cross country skiing-MN.;
Hazardous materials-MN.; Personal water craft laws-MN.; Schools-MN.; State trails-MN.
C. PHONE DIRECTORIES: The 1999-2000 Sun suburban directories were ordered, received, and added to the
reference section. The 1999-2000 Minnesota U.S. West Dex phone directories were also ordered, but have
not been received as of 8/30.
III.
Projects & Goals
A. BOOKDISPLAY: The book display for September was displayed in late August and features westerns and books
on the West. Accompanying the display is a booklist annotated and compiled by Elaine, typed by Jeanine, and
designed by myself. The title of the book display and booklist is Wild & Wooley, western books. I also began
pulling books on Poland for the October display.
B. TAX FORMS: The federal tax forms were ordered.
C. MAGAZINE BOX INVENTORY: The magazine boxes were inventoried and new ones added for the upcoming
subscriptions to start in January 2000. Kelly will be preparing new labels for all the boxes.
D. SUPPLmS INVENTORY: I reinventoried our office and general supplies and entered this information on the
inventory supply sheets. The supply locator was updated.

Prepared August budget list for general and office supplies.
Ordered and received supplies.
Ordered fall Minnesota Explorer from the Minnesota Office of Tourism.
