August operational report
August 30, 1999
BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. The parking lot had the final seal-coat applied and was re-striped during the month.
B. Water damage to a wall in the Children's Department will require the removal of calcium
deposits and a sealing process. The repair was completed 8/30.
COLLECTION
A. Becky met with Joe Schmitz 8/25 to select small press books.
B. Three book orders were placed.
EQUIPMENT
A. A list of surplus items was submitted to the Police Department for inclusion in the City
auction.
B. Negotiations with Honeywell for a one-year contract on the HVAC equipment continued.
C. Two bids were received from vendors to replace the City's phone system.
PROGRAMS
A. Two Tuesday Specials were held in August with a total attendance of 209 children and 68

The Board met 8/3 with four members in attendance.
Three Wargo Nature programs were held with a total attendance of 34 children and 14 adults.
Two Teacher Storytimes were held with a total attendance of 27 children and 10 adults.
The American Girl Tea Party 8/18 drew 32 participants and their dolls.

Marsha attended two meetings on Teen Read Week.
Emi completed her first year as a Library Page.
Marsha and Becky met with the pages 8/16 to negotiate fall schedule.
Marsha attended a 21st Century Grant meeting 8/17 at the school district.
Becky attended two Y2K meetings during the month.
Becky attended a Space Needs meeting 8/23.
Becky participated in the phone demonstrations for the proposed new system 8/24.
Becky and Marsha attended the Teacher Appreciation luncheon sponsored by the Chamber
8/25.
Becky attended the Multi-Use Facility meeting 8/25 at Murzyn Hall.
The staff is currently short four members. Applications are being taken for two page
positions and two library supervisor positions.
Marsha met with a 3M representative 8/31 about the security system.
Becky attended a record retention schedule meeting 8/31.

B.
A MELSA survey was conducted 8/10.
The pages completed the following projects over the summer months: removal of $1/day fine
stickers from rental videos, mend magazines, shift magazines, replace small book-ends in
select non-fiction areas, clean cd's, large print transactions, tax book repairs, patron request
book repairs, and fiction mending through "H" in preparation for shifting.
