June operational report
June 28,1999
BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. The air conditioning unit over the lobby required two service calls. The set-back thermostats
also required a repair.
B. Olson Plumbing replaced a broken pipe under the sink in the work room 6/21.
C. Heights Electric repaired a light fixture 6/23.
D. Three scupper extensions have been ordered for the west side of the Library. Water has been
running down the foundation and leaking into the Children's Department. Public Works will
repair the cracked blacktop.
COLLECTION
A. The pages finished mending the magazines that needed to be shifted to storage on 6/16. Kelly
has the discards finished and the magazine updates ready to submit to Anoka County Library.
B. Materials for collection development in the adult 600's were received and processed.
C. The large print books were weeded.
EQUIPMENT
A. Nothing was changed in June.
PROGRAMS
A. The Board met 6/1 with all members present.
B. The Friends met 6/2 with 12 members present.
C. The Friends' Annual Book Sale was held 6/3. A special Preview Night 6/2 raised interest in
the Friends by requiring either a $5.00 ticket or a current Friends' membership for admission.
The Friends made $711.66 and the Library made $292.00 during the sale.
D. June Tuesday Specials included: the Splatter Sisters on 6/15 (140 children, 44 adults), Half-
Pint and Oscar on 6/22 (145 children, 52 adults) and The Flyers on 6/29. (174 children, 52
adults).
E. The Enchantment of Libra Reading Club started 6/7 and Library kids are Cool Reading Club
started 6/14.
F. Two Funtimes were held in June: 6/17 (36 children, 18 adults) and 6/24 (28 children, 7
adults).
G. The Columbia Heights Public Library Board of Trustees sponsored an entry in the jamboree
Parade 6/25.

AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM
A. The network has undergone several changes to better accommodate the use of PC's instead
of dumb terminals. Columbia Heights will start changing out dumb terminals in the fall of
1999.

Becky scored the Community Service Officer essays for grammar, punctuation, and language
usage 6/1.
Becky attended a Space Needs Committee meeting 6/1.
Becky attended two Y2K meetings and prepared a draft emergency plan for the building.
Interviews were held for the vacant page and choreperson positions. New pages in the first
class are Susan Miller and Tanu Verma. The second class of pages includes Annie Harmel,
Brent Larson, Katy Oftedahl, and Stephanie Stroinski. The new choreperson is Jacob Lemm.
Andrea celebrated her eighth anniversary as a Library Page.
Becky participated in field visits to St. Paul Park and Oakdale as part of recommending a firm
to do the City's space needs study. The Committee recommended Buetow and Associates to
the City Council.
Shari started training the first page class 6/14.
Kari Kyle graduated from Columbia Heights High School on 6/10.
Deb Cook completed her second year as a Library Page.
Becky conducted twelve tours of City facilities for potential cleaning contractors June 15-18.
Proposals are due back 6/25.
Becky attended an Oversight Committee Meeting 6/22. The revised retention schedule is
almost ready to submit to the State.
Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 6/30.

A. A MELSA survey was conducted 6/24.
