FRIENDS: The Friends of the Library met on Monday, May 3, with ten members present. At the meeting Keith Windschitl, Recreation Director, made a presentation to the Friends on the proposed Multi-Use Facility. The Friends also discussed the book sale and members reviewed the work slots they had signed up for. Kay Reiners suggested her son and a friend of his could be the book movers. The Friends will be selling pre-sale book sale tickets at the library on Wednesday, May 26, 4-8 P.M., Tuesday, June 1, 4-8 P.M., and at the door on Wednesday, June 2, beginning at 5:00 P.M. HOMEBOUND: This month, I selected books and arranged delivery for three homebound patrons. BULK LOANS: Bulk loans were prepared and delivered to Parkview Villa and Heights Manor on Wednesday, May 5. II. Collection A. BOOKS ON TAPE: My spring books-on-tape order has been received and processed. In June, the tapes will be used on the display panel in the lobby of the library. June is Audio Book Month. B. TRAVEL PAMPHLETS: The new state tourism brochures received have been labeled and placed in the vertical file. III. Projects & Goals A. BOOKSALE: During the month, I designed and duplicated promotional materials for the book sale. This included flyers, pre-sale tickets, and posters. I contacted Northeast State Bank and the City Hall to request the book sale be advertised on their marquees. I also wrote a news release on the sale and faxed it to the Northeaster and Focus newspapers. Promotional flyers were also sent in the delivery to all the Anoka County Libraries. BUDGET REPORT: I prepared a budget report on items I order for the library. This includes office, computer, and general supplies, and minor office equipment. This report covers January 1999 through the middle of May and shows the amount spent, budgeted, and remaining in each account. This report will be updated each month after the bills are processed and a copy given to Becky. BULLETIN BOARD: A new bulletin board was designed and displayed the week of May 17 with the theme, "Get carried away with books". WORD PROCESSING: During the month, I used the Wordpad program to create signs, reports, and other documents. COMMUNITYINVOLVEMENT: I attended and represented the library at the Immaculate Conception School Civic Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, May 27. The agenda for this event included a tour of the school an art fair, a welcome by School Board Co-President, Mike McGee, a short talk by Representative Satveer Chaudhary, and a luncheon. Students of the school acted as tour guides and helped at the luncheon. I enjoyed the tour of the school and the luncheon and had the opportunity to meet the pastor, acting principal oflCS, and several members of their school board. IV. Miscellaneous B. C. D. E. F. G. Supervised staff while Becky was away from the library on May 5, 6, 21 and the week of May 24-28. Added books to the COH-NEW displays of fiction and non-fiction. Addressed newsletters to City and Anoka County Library staff. Corrected patron addresses in database from notices returned to the library by the post office. Withdrew shelf list cards for items withdrawn. Duplicated NY Times Best Seller list for distribution. Submitted copy to Kelly for the June newsletter. MMK/jms
