CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS
TO:
FROM:
Mayor, City Council, City Manager, Division Heads, Library Board
M. Rebecca Loader, Library Director
SUBJECT: Operational Report #10 (Nov. 6-17, 1989)
DATE:
November 17, 1989
I. Significant accomplishments
A. The Friends of the Library met on November 6. Becky was invited to submit
a "wish list" for the members' consideration. The Friends voted to purchase
two upholstered benches for the adult reading room, two paperback racks for
the Young Adult Corner, and two video towers for the adult reading room.
These generous gifts have been ordered.
B. Four sessions of preschool storyhour and four sessions of Tiny Tots
storyhour were held during this time period. A total of 190 children
and 57 adults participated in the programs.
C.57 people attended the 11/8 senior citizen program. A survey was conducted
to determine if a change in date or format would be appropriate.
D.On 11/13 45 children participated in the Daycare storytime.
E. 11/14 was the annual Board Appreciation Dinner. Held at Leon's, the business
meeting was followed by dinner in the banquet room. The Board also visited
the bar to "pull a tab" in support of the Boosters' generous gift to the library.
F. Gamma Sigma Sigma sorority sponsored a special evening storytime on November 16.
G. Faith Nursery School attended a special fieldtrip to the children's department
on November 17.
II. Departmental goals
A. The Friends worked on a re-labelling project in the adult fiction section
of the library. As the collection is shifted into the new shelving, they
are correcting spine labels.
B. The construction is progressing. The lights, diffuser, and pipes have been
moved in the lobby, and the ceiling is restored. There are still a few
punchlist items to be done. The library was without the boiler for nearly
nine days during the pipe-moving portion of the project. The brown room
is nearly done in the collection shift, and the records, microfilm, and
periodicals are in their new positions in the room. Staff is working about
one hour per day moving books.
III. Issues and problems
