Significant accomplishments
A. The library staff judged a poster contest for the Fire Department.
We selected the top three winners from three schools and one grand
prize winner, which will compete at a statewide level.
B. Bernie Szymczak and Frannie Jensen put up a Polish exhibit on
the library's main lobby bulletin board during the month of October.
C. Six sessions of preschool storyhour and six sessions of Tiny Tots
storyhour were held during this time period. A total of 300 children
and 100 adults participated in the programs.
D. Gamma Sigma Sigma sorority presented a special evening storytime
on October 26.
E. 36 Headstart children attended two special fieldtrips on October 30.

Departmental goals
A. Mary Kloss attended a workshop on newsletters and desktop publishing
entitled "The Message and tile Medium" on October 16-17.
Mary Cooper attended a telephone seminar on 10/18.
Becky participated in a MELSA workshop for trustees and library
administrators on October 18. Barbara Miller and Richard Hubbard
represented the Library Board.
D. Mary Cooper and Jeanine attended the Municipals banquet on October 19.
E. The Friends Appreciation Luncheon was held at the Dragon House on
October 23. Pat Sowada and Ed Carlson represented the Library Board,
and 28 Friends were in attendance.
F. Mary Kloss participated in a MELSA workshop on October 24 on desktop
publishing.
G. The collection shift is progressing. All the magazines, newspapers,
telephone books, and quartos have been moved to the new location.
The staff is spending about one hour per day on moving books. The
card catalog is now gone, and the cabinets have been moved to the
workroom to house the shelf list.
The construction project still has a few punchlist items to be
completed.
Issues and problems
A. On November 1 a patron filed a complaint about closing the card
catalog and switching to a microfiche format.
