Significant accomplishments
A. The Friends met 8/7 at President Rita Norberg's house due to construction
at the library.
B. The Tuesday Special on 8/18, "Doodles and Oodles the Clowns," drew 181 people.
C. Mary Cooper attended a Vending Machine Committee meeting on 8/8.
D. The Senior Citizen program on 8/9 had 38 in attendance.
E. The filmstrip program on 8/10 had 28 children watching a selection from
the library's collection.
F. Dale and Vickie Hawley's "Animated Music" program drew 152 people for
the Tuesday Special on 8/15.
The filmstrip program on 8/17 had 12 people in attendance.
Reading Club ended 8/18. A total of 814 children were registered in all
three levels.

Departmental goals
A. The children's card catalog was dumped on 8/7. It will be replaced
with the new fiche catalog on 8/28.
B. Becky attended an online public access catalog demo in Roseville on 8/9.
She also attended a CD ROM catalog demo on 8/17. The task force will be
formulating its recommendation to the county on which format to be used
and will be presenting its findings at a September 7 meeting.
C. Two more cable shoots are in the can. The finished products will be
aired after 8/28.
D. On 8/16 eleven staff members participated in a fire extinguisher workshop
put on by the Columbia Heights Fire Department. Those staff unable to
attend will be trained in September.
E. Construction is progressing. The library is operating out of the basement
un,til the 28th of the month. In this interim, the staff has been able to
accomplish some major tasks: moving shelving units, re-arranging the whole
children's collection, re-labelling the shelves, weeding the magazines in
the storage room, and spiffing up the children's department in general.
The staff has worked very hard on these projects and deserves a hearty
thank-you!
