Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: Operational Report #3 (July 17-August 4, 1989) DATE: August 4, 1989 Significant accomplishments A. Page training is progressing rapidly. Three pages finished formal training on August 3 and will be phased into the regular work schedule. B. The Tuesday Special on 7/18 featured "All-in-One" and drew 152 children. C. Pre-School Funtime on 7/20 had 55 willing participants. D. A checque from the Columbia Heights Athletic Boosters was received. This generous gift will purchase new furniture for the reading area of the adult reading room. E. The Tuesday Special on 7/25 had 132 people watching "Mary Poppins." F. Pre-School Funtime on 7/27 had 67 participants. G. The Tuesday Special on 8/1 drew 181 people to watch Mary Lou Martin's "Animal Adventures." The Library Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on August 1. A filmstrip program on 8/3 had 53 children in attendance. The three sections of Reading Club had 803 registered participants as of 8/4. Departmental goals A. Due to construction, the library's cable channel will not be broadcasting for the next four weeks. The videos in production will be inserted into the broadcast schedule for the week of 8/28. Three more cable shoots were scheduled and the tapes are being edited. The Cable Commission reviewed a sampling of the tapes already done on 8/20, and the library received positive feedback from them. B. Construction began in the library on July 31. The pillara are gone from the Brown Room and all materials left there have been covered with plastic. Staff is making arrangements to spend August14-25 in the basement. Delivery will be suspended for the two weeks the adult section of the library is closed. C. Becky attended a meeting on 7/27 at Blaine about the online public access catalog. The library will close its card catalog on August 28 and reveal the microfiche catalog. The online public access catalog will be the next step in the automation project. III. Library p.2 Issues/Problems A. On 7/28 Becky met with three representatives from Gestetner about the copier. They will be submitting a written proposal about how to rectify the situation with the copier.
