The children's department celebrated National Children's Book Week November 1§-21 with
special bookmarks and bumper stickers being given out. A special story-time program was
presented November 19th in the evening by Gan~na Sigma National Service Sorority. Several
special programs were also put on for nurseries and daycare centers. A poster contest with
a Bicentennial theme was held during November, and judges Irene Parsons and Marlaine Szurek
awarded prizes provided by the Friends of the Library.
Thanks go to Lucille McFail, Kay Reiners, Macile Reinholdson and Madge Sandgren for the
pumpkin cake they baked for the November senior citizen program. Thanks also go to
C~-nie Carlson, Lucille McFail, Macile Reinholdson, and Madge Sandgren for helping to serv~
Two special programs were held in the library during November. "Speaking of Courtesy"
a Northwestern Bell workshop on proper phone etiquette, was held for the library staff and
other interested city employees on November 4 at the library. On the 12th Angelo Rulli
presented a program on organ grinders and mechanized music as part of a night of family
entertainment.
Thanks go to the Friends of the Library for their generous gifts of an answering machine,
paperback rack, record bin, and area rug for the storyhour room. Their hours of hard work
have provided the library with items that will help keep the quality of service to the
patrons high. Thanks again!
On November 16th the library experienced a major water problem through a leak in the roof
over the adult reading room. Due to the amount of water and the clean-up process, the
library was closed to the public until 2:00 p.m. Some materials were lost in the deluge,
but it could have been much worse. Thanks to everyone who helped with the clean-up.
