Thanks go to the Friends of the Library for providing cheese, crackers, and sausage snacks
for the July senior citizens program. The "Happy Retreads" presented a vaudeville-type act
funded by the Friends through an Anoka County Community Development Block Grant. Thanks
also go to Margaret Anderson, Made Eng, Estelle Nelson, Madge Sandgren, and Aileen
Sturdevant for helping to serve.
The children's department had a busy month with programs. The movie, "Pete's Dragon,"
was shown to 197 children on July 7. Terry Odegaard brought his snake and reptile show to the
library on July 14 and thrilled his audience of 242 people. Crafts on July 21 had 120 participants.
Four preschool fun-times had a total audience of 286. A field trip for 21 children from North
Park Speech and Language Developmentally Delayed Program was presented on July 10.
Storytime in the parks on July 15 entertained 90 children in four city parks.
The Library is participating in the City's recycling program ("We want you to be
R.I.C.H.") and took in the first load of cans and bottles on July 11. Considering the amount of
pop cans and mineral water bottles generated by the staff, it was a substantial delivery!
The next Friends of the Library meeting is Tuesday, September 1 at 1:00 pm. This is a
special meeting to finalize plans for the fall salad bar luncheon and raffle. Please bring your items
for the raffle to this meeting.
Three major staff announcements. The library's clerk-typist II, Michelle Nordby, has
resigned to go back to college tp complete her degree in elementary education. Laura Peterson,
page trainer and conversion worker, got married on July 31. Skaidrite Stolcers, evening
supervisor, worked her last regularly-scheduled night on August 3 but will remain on the
substitute list during the school year. The staff's best wishes to them all!
